Summary

An observant fan ofThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Wakernotices a small detail about the statues in the game that very few people have noticed since its release over twenty years ago. Thissmall detail inZelda: The Wind Wakeris another great example of what makes this series so beloved by fans.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Wakerwas originally released for the Nintendo GameCube in 2002 to a rather tepid response from the fanbase at the time. Back then, manyZeldafans were looking for a more realistic experience, along the lines ofThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, not a game with such a “cartoonish” feel. Today,The Wind Wakeris seen by many as a masterpiece, with its striking, colorful art style that still holds up two decades later. In 2013, Nintendo releasedThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, a version of the game that makes the art style shine even more with beautiful high-definition graphics.

Reddit user Oramni posted a clip that not only shows how wellThe Wind Waker’s art style holds upbut also reveals a strange animation from a decorative statue. In the clip, Link can be seen on one of the many islands in the game, standing next to a statue of a woman with a jug of water on her head. Everything looks perfectly normal at first; then, suddenly, the statue starts to “nod off” as if she’s falling asleep. The water in the jug splashes all over, forcing her to go back to her stoic stance.

The statue in the clip is called the Fountain Idol, a reward that Link receives for completing theShop Guru Statue quest inThe Wind Waker. To get the Fountain Idol, players must complete a long trading session that involves Link traveling to four major islands in the game. There doesn’t seem to be any explanation in the game why the statue falls asleep randomly. It appears to just be a neat Easter egg.

For players who would like to get the Fountain Idol for themselves, they’ll have to find a Wii U or GameCube to do so.The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HDis still not available for the Switch, and remains as one of the few major Wii U games to not be ported over. But now thatThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis finally out, perhaps Nintendo will releaseThe Wind Wakerfor the Switch while fans of the series wait for the next big installment.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HDis available now for Wii U.
