Microsoft is planning to regularly release Xbox Project Scarlett exclusive games, the company has revealed. OnlyHalo Infinitehas been confirmed for Project Scarlett, but it seems like players of the new console will have much more than that to enjoy from Microsoft’s game developers.
Speaking toGamesRadar, head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty revealed that the company feels “really good” as it goes into 2020 and prepares to launch theXbox Project Scarlettin holiday 2020. Booty also confirmed that the Xbox Project Scarlett team would like to “deliver a game, roughly, every three to four months.” The Xbox Game Studios boss did say that the team has “a little bit of work to do to get there” and that things may be “lumpy,” but the team is “closer than we were.”

That schedule should mean that Xbox Project Scarlett players have a large lineup of new and oldXboxgames to play on the new console. In the same article, Booty tells the publication that the Xbox Project Scarlett will have more launch games than any other Xbox consoles because of its backward compatibility. Games from the first Xbox console to the Xbox One will all be playable on the new console, but a first-party release schedule ensures that fans aren’t just replaying the same games that they’ve completed before, on other Xbox devices.
Having a regular release of Xbox Project Scarlett exclusives also fixes an issue that many fans had with the Xbox One. Microsoft was criticized heavily for not releasing many Xbox One exclusives, and confirmations that games like Xbox One exclusiveScaleboundhad been canceleddidn’t help things. The Xbox One has had some great games, such asState of Decay 2,Forza Horizon 4, andHalo 5: Guardians, but the overall library was not as substantial as fans would like.
Booty may feel that the plans aren’t complete, but Microsoft is in a good position to deliver first-party games so often. The company haspurchased several game developers such as Ninja Theorywhich is now developingBleeding Edge, Obsidian Entertainment which has announcedGroundedand is developing several other big RPGs, andForza Horizondeveloper Playground Games is also owned by Microsoft. It’s unclear when Microsoft may announce all of the games that its studios are developing but fans may not have to wait very long between each release.
