In September 2023, Microsoft released two updates for Xbox consoles. Inthe first of these September Xbox updates, Xbox players were granted the ability to stream directly to Discord, easier accessibility pairing without pressing the Pair button, and variable refresh rate for both Xbox Series X/S consoles on compatible displays. Some other features included in the first September Xbox update allowed friends to join each other’s game sessions for compatible titles. The update also allowed voice chat soundbites to be used as a way to report players for harassment or griefing in games. But Xbox was far from done with the autumnal updates.
Useful Features From Xbox’s October 2023 Console Update
According to Xbox Wire, the latest Xbox system update will allow users withan Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2or an Xbox Adaptive Controller to use keyboard mappings on any button. With additional buttons on the back of the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, users will be able to remap them to use modifier keys such as Shift and Control on Windows. This update will also allow key combinations, such as Shift-Control-1 or Alt-R, to be used as a one-button input. In addition to Xbox consoles, the controller remap update is available on Windows 10 and Windows 11 via the latest update to the Xbox Accessories app. PC users can check the Microsoft Store to download or update to the latest version of the app.
Followingthe late September 2023 Xbox updatethat changed the way data management is handled within the console, users will now be able to send their game captures to Clipchamp via Microsoft’s network. Climpchamp is an application for desktop browsers and Windows PCs that allows users to make and edit clips tailor-made for social media. But, starting with the aforementioned late September update, Xbox users will only have 90 days after uploading their captures directly to the Xbox network to use or transfer them, or they will be automatically deleted. However, this deletion policy does not apply to clips saved directly on the Xbox console or external drives.
With titles such asthe upcoming Xbox beta ofFinal Fantasy 14that have complex keybindings, Xbox users now have more ways to tailor their experience. Only time will tell how gamers will take advantage of the new update.
