World of Warcraft: Dragonflightjust introduced a new cosmetic-collecting feature with similarities to a Battle Pass. Called the Trading Post, this newWorld of Warcraftfeature will allow players to earn rare and exclusive cosmetics simply by playing the game.
The Trading Post is a special marketWorld of Warcraftplayers can visit in their faction capitalsthat offer unique weapon and armor transmogs, pets, and mounts for purchase. This inventory changes monthly, but players can freeze an item to save it for the next month. The Trading Posts themselves will physically change each month as well, showing off the new inventory on armor racks, and keeping mounts in its stables.

The Trading Post operates using a new currency called “Trader’s Tender.” Players can earn 1000 Trader’s Tender a month, 500 simply for having an active subscription and visiting the Trading Post, and 500 more for completing special monthly challenges in the Traveler’s Log. These challenges vary from progression activities like completingWorld of Warcraftraidsand Mythic+ dungeons to fun activities like resurrecting players or using emotes on specific NPCs. The challenges change monthly, and will often fit in-game holidays and themes.
Once the new feature goes live, Alliance players can find the Tawny and Wilder Trading Post just outside the Mage District in Stormwind, while Horde players can find the Zen’shiri Trading Post next to Grommash Hold in Orgrimmar. Interestingly enough,World of Warcraftadded stables to these locations inShadowlandsPatch 9.2.5, hinting something was coming there soon. Players can expect to see the Trading Post in the Public Test Realm soon, with a full launch likely inDragonflightPatch 10.0.5.
Initial player reaction to the Trading Post is almost universally positive.World of Warcraftplayers love collecting cosmetics, and the Traveler’s Log allows players of all types to find the perfect tasks to fit their playstyles. Many players also compared it withFinal Fantasy 14’spopular Wondrous Tales and Challenge Log features. With interesting and unique options to pick from each month, the Trading Post seems like a fantastic way to keep players logging in, even duringslower periods ofWorld of Warcraft’spatch cycle.
That said, someWorld of Warcraftplayers are worried the Trading Post is the sign of something worse on the horizon. They fearWorld of Warcraftmay eventually allow players to purchase Trader’s Tender with real money, or that it may add apremium Battle Pass options similar toOverwatch 2orHearthstone. Luckily, it seems likeWorld of Warcraftdoesn’t have plans to add RMT to the Trading Post beyond the base subscription right now, and hopefully it keeps it that way.
