If the launch ofMortal Kombat 11on Switch is anything to go by, there might be a lot to be worried about withMortal Kombat 1.
The recent announcement ofMortal Kombat 1has stirred a few players as the game will only come out as an exclusive title for current-generation consoles and PC. Unfortunately, this announcement has been met with lots of skepticism from players, regardless of the developer in charge of the port. A Reddit user started a thread wondering ifMortal Kombat 1on the Nintendo Switch would have better graphics than Mortal Kombat 11. Several users have voiced their concerns regarding the upcoming port in response, citing worries about the game’s graphical fidelity and possible framerate issues. Given that the previous port forMortal Kombat 11suffered from a tepid reception and was evenleft out of the game’s crossplay beta testbecause of its myriad of issues, players have valid concerns regarding this upcoming release that, oddly enough, will not be released on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Some players were quick to point out the insane storage requirements thatMortal Kombat 1will have, talking about how the gamerequires over 100 GB of storageon its current-gen counterparts. While it’s obvious that the game will not take as much space from the Nintendo Switch as the current-gen ports, it’s more than likely that this version ofMortal Kombat 1will come with a requirement for players to have a high-capacity SD card just to house the game. Still, a few outliers have also expressed hope about the upcoming port. One of them even pointed out that the circumstances around the production of this port might be better than some realize since the Nintendo Switch has received FSR support to help make some of its games look better without sacrificing performance.
There’s still one more possibility that could be worth taking into consideration, and that is that the port ofMortal Kombat 1on Nintendo Switch could be handled as a Cloud version, offering the performance and graphic fidelity that othercloud-based Nintendo Switch portshave offered with the inherent disadvantage of the game having an always-online requirement. Still, there’s much room for speculation, given that NetherRealm hasn’t shared any gameplay trailers yet on the Nintendo Switch or the current-generation consoles. As such, it’s worth keeping an eye out for upcoming developments as NetherRealm Studios figures out how to bring the soft-reboot of the franchise to the Nintendo Switch.
Mortal Kombat 1is set to release on September 19 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
