Yesterday, several exciting details were confirmed regarding the highly-anticipated remake of Capcom’s classic game,Resident Evil 3. New gameplay previews of the game revealed thata couple of features from the originalRE3will be included in the remake such as the dodge mechanic and the explosive objects that will be scattered around Raccoon City.
Moreover, Capcom announced thatResident Evil 3remake will be receiving a playable demo, similar toResident Evil 2andResident Evil 7. However, the Japanese developer and publisher did not disclose specific details of the demo such as what it will cover and when it will be released to the public. Now, based on the demos of previousResident Evilgames, here are the most likely things players can expect inResident Evil 3remake’s upcoming playable demo.

A Prequel Chapter to Resident Evil 3
Prior to the release ofResident Evil 7back in 2017, Capcom releaseda playableRE7demothat offered players a glimpse of what to expect in the game. Shortly after, it was revealed that the demo, which is titled Beginning Hour, would serve as a prologue toResident Evil 7. Beginning Hour saw the events leading to the disappearance of a news crew, giving players vital information on unlocking a hidden passage in the main game.
Now, it is possible that the same format would be carried over to the upcoming demo of theResident Evil 3remake. It would be interesting to seehow the Raccoon City Incident unfoldsfrom the perspective of a different character. Maybe Capcom would tell the story of citizen Dario and how he lost his family during the outbreak, or maybe the demo will give players a glimpse of the story of Carlos and other members of the UBCS when they were dispatched to Raccoon City. Nonetheless, if this is the path that Capcom is taking, then players can expect an hour-long preview of events before Jill Valentine came into the picture.
A Timed Demo of an Early Part of the Game
Another possibility, and probably the most likely scenario, would be a demo that is in the same vein as the preview of 2019’s remake ofResident Evil 2. A few weeks prior to the release ofResident Evil 2remake, Capcom launcheda one-shot 30-minute demothat allowed players to explore the game’s primary location, the Raccoon City Police Station. UnlikeResident Evil 7,the demo featuredResident Evil 2’smain protagonist, Leon Kennedy, and covered events that took place in the actual game.
However, players are only allowed to play the demo once, and the preview has a strict 30-minute rule that will end whether or not the player has completed the main objective. Although the demo ran short, it still gave players enough time to explore the new layout of the police station and have a feel on how to kill zombies in the game. Soon after the demo’s release, Capcom reported that the preview has been played by over 2.3 million people.
Late last year, Capcom re-releasedResident Evil 2’sdemo, removed the 30-minute time limit, and addeda Nemesis easter eggto hype players up forResident Evil 3. If Capcom will releaseResident Evil 3’sdemo in the same format, then it would be interesting to see which part of Jill’s escape will be featured in the preview.

A Preview of Nemesis
Although the star ofResident Evil 3is Jill Valentine, it is without a doubt that players are also hyped and terrified at the same time with the game’s main protagonist Nemesis. Unlike Mr. X, Nemesis is smarter, faster, and poses a bigger threat to players, which is whyResident Evil 3is more action-oriented than its predecessor.
Now, it is possible that Capcom would want its fans to have a glimpse of an encounter withNemesisin the demo. However, it wouldn’t likely be a full-fledged battle with the tyrant, given that Capcom would want to save that for the actual game. What’s likely to happen is that the demo will end upon the first sighting of the STARS hunter, which will most likely makeResident Evilfans purchase the game to experience more.
Possible Release Date
As previously mentioned, the release date ofResident Evil 3’sdemo is still unknown. In its tweet yesterday, Capcom said that more details will be revealed soon. However, it is worth remembering thatResident Evil 7’sdemo was released months before the game’s launch, andResident Evil 2’spreview a week before.
Given thatResident Evil 3is merely 36 days away at the time of writing, then players can expect the playable demo anytime this week, up until a few days before the game’s release date at the very least.
