The PlayStation 5 gameplay reveal in June finally confirmed a long-running rumor that Sony would be one again partnering up with Bluepoint Games for a from-the-ground-up remake of From Software’sDemon’s Souls. While the announcement was met with universal applause,Demon’s Soulswasn’t the only remakerumored to be in development at Bluepoint, a studio that’s known for bringing theUnchartedtrilogy to PlayStation 4 withUncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, and most notably, the brilliant 2018 remake ofShadow of the Colossus. What other beloved PlayStation games could Bluepoint remake afterDemon’s Souls?
Metal Gear Solid
Next toDemon’s Souls, aMetal Gear SolidPlayStation 5 remakehas been rumored for quite some time now - often being linked to Bluepoint Game, although it’s mostly just speculation. Like another game coming up in the list, a complete modern PS5 remake of the originalMetal Gear Solidwould require an exclusivity partnership between Sony and Konami, which could be difficult but certainly not impossible considering there’s been nothing substantive from the franchise since 2015’sMetal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Bluepoint also has a history with the franchise, having previously developed theMetal Gear Solid HD Collectionfor PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, a collection that didn’t feature the originalMetal Gear Solid.

The Legend of Dragoon
Fans have been asking for a remake ofThe Legend of Dragoonfor a long time, so much so that a fan-madepetition to remakeThe Legend of Dragoonmanaged to reach over 23,000 signatures at the end of 2019. Developed by Japan Studio, a PlayStation first-party studio behind franchises such asApe Escape,Gravity Rush, andKnack,The Legend of Dragoonis a beloved fantasy-RPG from the PlayStation One centered around ancient dragon warriors called Dragoons. Unfortunately, while a sequel went into pre-production following the release of the original game, it was later cancelled for reasons that have never been stated publicly. A next-generation remake could go a long way to fixing all the issues from the original game and breathing new life into a beloved first-party franchise that got left behind.
Silent Hill
Following the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hillsreboot in April 2015 and the removal ofP.T.from the PlayStation Store, fans have been begging for a new entry in the series. While the original games on PS1 and PS2 played a significant role in the rise of the survival-horror genre, the series slowly went downhill with each new entry until Konami finally cut the cord afterSilent Hill DownpourandSilent Hill: Book of Memoriesin 2012. It’s long been rumored that Sony and Konami are already in production on aSilent Hillreboot for PlayStation 5which is due to be announced in the coming months. However, until that’s confirmed, maybe it’s time for Konami to consider a complete remake of the first and second games similar toResident Evil 2 RemakeandResident Evil 3 Remake.

Jak and Daxter
Insomniac Games’Ratchet & Clankremake went a long way to reboot a tired franchise and add some diversity to the PS4’s first-party lineup in a time where some fans are beginning to complain about games being too similar. WithRatchet & Clankonce again returning on PS5 inRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and mascots likeAstro BotandSackboyboth receiving new games, now is a really good time for Sony to re-evaluateJak and DaxterandSly Cooper. AJak and Daxterreboothas been rumored a couple of time for PlayStation 5, and with the amount of care Bluepoint Games put intoShadow of the Colossus, it could be a great addition to the developer’s credits.
Sony and Bluepoint Games have yet to announce a release window for theDemon’s Soulsremake, so while it’s fun to speculate, it’s likely going to be years before a new project is announced. However, the success of high-quality remakes likeCrash Bandicoot: N. Sane TrilogyandShadow of the Colossusprove that while new games and IPs are always better, there’s plenty of room to explore the past if handled right. Bluepoint Games is one of the best in the industry when it comes to remaking classic games, so whatever it does next, fans are bound to be in for a treat.
