Summary
LEGO sets have come a long way since the rudimentary spaceships and castles of decades past. Now store shelves are filled with highly intricate sets, many of them centering around licensed properties such asStar WarsandHarry Potter. These film-based sets have dominated the LEGO aisle for the better part of twenty-five years, but sets based on video games have more recently found a foothold.Super Mario,Minecraft, andSonic the Hedgehogare among the themes that LEGO has releasedso far, and in just a few months fans will be able to build their ownAnimal Crossingsets as well.
LEGO and Nintendo teased the newAnimal Crossingsets earlier this month and officially revealed the first wave just a few days ago. LEGO Blathers' Museum
Animal Crossingfeatures an extensive list of iconic characters who frequently appear in each new installment. One such character is Blathers, a studious owl who runsAnimal Crossing’s museum. This museum lets players display various bugs, artwork, and fossils, and could be turned into a greatly detailed LEGO set. Like Nook’s Cranny, a LEGO Blathers' Museum could recreate the building’s outer pillars, and then feature an open interior with various LEGO dinosaur fossils and art pieces. Blathers and his younger sister Celeste could serve as the set’s minifigures, adding to the already substantial list of available notable characters.
LEGO Dodo Airlines
When players start their journey inAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, they arrive at their island courtesy of Dodo Airlines. Operating out of a small airport, Dodo Airlines is run by the dodo birds Orville and Wilbur who use a quaint seaplane to transport villagers. This airline could make for a charming little LEGO set featuring the Dodo Airlines building and its signature plane. While many of the initialLEGOAnimal Crossingsetsshowcase the joys of island life, many fans would likely enjoy a set that represents the humble beginnings every player experiences when they boot upAC:NHfor the first time.
LEGO The Roost
Animal Crossingis known for being a cozy game, and few locations from the franchise are more cozy than The Roost. This coffee shop serves up delicious drinks, and it’s whereAnimal Crossing’s musical sensation K.K Sliderperforms on Saturdays. A LEGO set of The Roost could recreate its bar and seating, as well as a stage for K.K. Slider minifigure performances. It also wouldn’t be The Roost without Brewster the pigeon, who could be given a LEGO minifigure of his own that can go behind the coffee bar. If LEGO wants to make reference to previousACgames, it could even make The Roost attachable to the museum.
The new LEGOAnimal Crossingsets are yet another sign that the toy company’s relationship with the video game industry is as strong as ever. Nintendo has already collaborated with LEGO extensively on itsSuper Mariosets, andAnimalCrossingcould reach a similar point in due time. Whether they focus on sets inspired byAnimal Crossing: New Horizons, or they take it all the way back to the first game, there’s more than enough potential for LEGO to release countlessAnimal CrossingLEGO sets.
