A drawback of the digital, online-focused gaming industry is that games and their associated multiplayer services can be shut down forever whenever their publishing company no longer wants to support them. So is the case with 15Ubisofttitles, all of which are set to have theironline services shut down on September 1. In some cases this will mean no longer being able to play a game’s online multiplayer, in other cases it means losing access to DLC. And in one extreme example, it means losing access to the game entirely.
On September 1,Ubisoftwill be ending online services forAnno 2070,Assassin’s Creed 2,Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood,Assassin’s Creed Revelations,Assassin’s Creed 3,Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD,Driver San Francisco,Far Cry 3,Ghost Recon Future Soldier,Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands,Rayman Legends,Silent Hunter 5,Space Junkies,Splinter Cell: Blacklist, andZombiU. The PC versions of all these games will be impacted, as will the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U versions of the games, when applicable. Luckily, Ubisoft does not seem to be shutting down online services for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PS5, or Xbox Series X games just yet.

The severity of the Ubisoft online shut downs is not the same for every platform. For example, thePC version ofAssassin’s Creed Brotherhoodis losing DLC access, so after September 1, fans won’t be able to download or install any DLC that they own for the game. However, the DLC should remain available for those that ownAssassin’s Creed Brotherhoodon PS3 and Xbox 360. This is the case across the board, with PC gamers getting the short end of the stick. Ubisoft Online Services Shutting Down List
In some cases, the Ubisoft online services shutting down won’t have all that significant of an impact on a game’s functionality. TakeRayman Legends, for instance. On September 1, the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions ofRayman Legendswill no longer be able to linkUbisoft accountsor use online features, but since it’s primarily an offline experience anyway, it shouldn’t be all that devastating.
Space Junkies, however, is going to suffer the most from the Ubisoft games shut down on September 1.Space Junkiesis a multiplayer-focused virtual reality game that is compatible with HTC Vive andOculus headsets. SinceSpace Junkiesis multiplayer-only, it will effectively become unplayable after September 1.
The good news is that some of these games have newer versions available that will retain their online services. However, anyUbisoft fansthat want to have one last hoorah with the online services of these titles should ensure to do so soon, as the shut down is happening September 1.
