Since starting his own development company, Kojima Productions, in 2005, Hideo Kojima has been going from strength to strength. As the creative mind behind theMetal Gear Solidseries which helped shape the stealth genre, his name has become synonymous with the video game auteur that’s often more associated with film directors. On top ofDeath Stranding, the Japanese creator is still keen to use his unique mind to conjure up some of the most interesting titles around, and a new tweet from the man is hinting at something that may be occurring soon.
A few days ago, the creative director ofDeath Strandingtook to Twitter to upload a very short video, which in true Kojima fashion, is quite cryptic. The clip shows him turning on a HAL-9000 type machine, which then utters the famous2001: A Space Odysseyline, “I’m sorry Dave. I’m afraid I can’t do that.” When the camera is pulled out, viewers will see what looks like a calendar that features a woman. Next to her is the word “June,” while above her head is the number 6. It seems obvious that people were meant to see this, so it could be hinting at something being revealed shortly, possibly tomorrow.

However, a report from The Gamer says that some detailing next to the woman sort of looks like a 1, which may mean the date is actually June 16 rather than June 6. There’s no real way to know just what Kojima has in mind, but given thatDeath Stranding 2has been strongly hinted at, thanks to Norman Reedus accidentally letting it slip, any big news coming from the Japanese director is likely to be related to this sequel. However, his tweet also contains the message “I think I can go to Jupiter,” so it’s hard to be certain.
In any case, it’s worth keeping a watchful eye on things to see what theMetal Geardeveloper has in store, if anything. With rumors not long ago saying thatHideo Kojima may be working on a PS5 game, as well as denials that Kojima Productions was being acquired by PlayStation, there are going to be quite a few theories being bandied around, though a newDeath Strandinginstallment is likely what most will be speculating about.
Given that theJapanese government granted Hideo Kojima the Minister’s Award for Fine Artsfor his work on the director’s cut ofDeath Stranding, it wouldn’t be surprising if some more information about a follow-up were inbound. Of course, the video on the tweet is short, and it doesn’t really give a lot away, so anything said at this point will only be conjecture.
Death Strandingis available now on PC, PS4, and PS5.
