Update:The upcoming show has been officially dubbed WitcherCon. The announcement has been added to the story below.

For fans ofThe Witcher, whether that be the books, games, or the TV show, there seems to be an important announcement coming next month. This morning,The Witchergame seriesdeveloper CD Projekt Red sent out a cryptic tweet to the official account of Netflix’sThe WitcherTV show that premiered in December of 2019. Although the conversation consisted only of three tweets, it’s safe to say that something will be happening in the Witcher-verse on July 9.

So far, 2021 has been a bit of a mixed bag forThe Witcherfans. While news ofThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntcoming to next-gen consoles later this yearhas gaming fans pumped, those who watched the first season ofThe WitcherTV show have been eager for more news of the delayed second season. Season 2 of the show likely would have released sometime in late 2020 if COVID-19 had not intervened, but since then the delayed season has been pushed back more than once. However, July 9 could finally reveal more information about the return of the popular Netflix adaptation.

While the series of tweets between CD Projekt Red and Netflix don’t hint at specifically what will be revealed on July 9, it is interesting that creators behind bothThe Witchergames and the TV show are teaming up for the announcement. The most optimistic interpretation of this might be some sort ofThe Witchershowcase that reveals new information for both the Netflix series and the game series, which would make this a pretty big event.

Of everything that could be revealed on July 9, a release date forseason 2 ofThe WitcherTV showis the most overdue. The drama series garnered a lot of attention when season 1 released, and over 76 million people had watched it in its first month out. The announcement on July 9 could also treat the fanbase to a pair of release dates, announcing season 2 ofThe WitcherTV show and giving a hard date forThe Witcher 3on next-gen consoles. Alternatively, this may be the opportunity for a trailer/release date for the animated film spin-off ofThe WitcherTV show calledThe Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf.

Another possibility would be a tease for a potentialThe Witcher 4from CD Projekt Red, although this seems the least likely of anything. Though it is highly probable that another game in theThe Witcherseries will arrive at some point, the reality is thatThe Witcher 4is probably years away. Still, there’s always the possibility of something completely unexpected on July 9, so fans will just have to keep their eyes peeled for more news on what exactly will take place.
