The New Machines of Horizon Forbidden West
AsAloy explores the Burning Shores, the machines she encounters are both fascinating and deadly. Perhaps the most energetic is the Bilegut which looks like a massive bullfrog. It is capable of jumping great distances, and it has a long, whip-like tongue that can be very dangerous when it is swung around. Fire and frost are effective against this enemy, though it does have a few hidden tricks.
Most notably, Bileguts produces Stingspawns which look like flies. They are small, and they can become a nuisance when Aloy is trying to focus on taking down a Bilegut. The Stingspawns emerge from eggs made by the Bilegut, and they are vulnerable toshock attacks inHorizon Forbidden West. Taking on a Bilegut and its spawns gets much easier when Aloy has a friend like Seyka around.

The last new enemyplayers come across is the Waterwing. This winged metal creature, in addition to flying high, can also dive underwater This gives it a big advantage, as Aloy’s combat abilities are limited when she is in water. Somewhat counterintuitively, the Waterwing’s primary weakness is to fire attacks, so players should pack plenty of fire arrows when going against these foes. Waterwings can also be a challenge when they are in groups, as attacks start coming from all angles.
The Horus Titan of Burning Shores
Throughout theHorizonfranchise, players come across plenty of dead machines that are as big as buildings. These are the Horus Titans, also known as the Metal Devils, and they were created by the Old Ones to destroy enemy fortresses.Aloy encounters a Horus Titanthat has been reactivated inBurning Shores. The machine had the power to destroy the current tribes and bring about a new Faro Plague.
Fortunately, the Horus Titan is not at full power, which gives Aloy a fighting chance against the behemoth. To take down the Horus Titan, Aloy has to destroy its Heat Sinks. It’s useful for players to use the Specter Gauntlet, which is a new weapon introduced in the DLC. She can also gain advantages from thenew skills inBurning Shores, with one of the most useful ones being the Defy Death skill. When it is unlocked, it grants Aloy the ability to deal more damage and not be knocked out.
Though several machines are roaming the land, there are also gorgeous sights for Aloy to gaze upon as she explores the Burning Shores. These sights extend both underwater and up in the skies. All this, combined with the DLC’s impactful story that builds on Aloy’s character, make it an entry in the series that fans should not miss. Unfortunately, with theBurning ShoresDLC being a PS5 exclusive, this may not be so easy for all gamers.
