Sony has revealed the minimum and recommended PC specs for the upcoming launch ofThe Last of Us Part 1on the platform. Therelease date forThe Last of Us Part 1on PCwas revealed late last year, and it’s not long now until gamers get their hands on Naughty Dog’s iconic title.
The Last of Us Part 1was an enormous hit when it first launched in 2013, and was seen as an instant classic upon its release. It has seen a surge in popularity recently, with the success of HBO’sThe Last of UsTV show causing ahuge spike in sales forThe Last of Us Part 1. With Sony keeping the series locked into the PlayStation consoles until now, there will be an enormous amount of gamers out there yet to experience Joel and Ellie’s story. If it’s a success, it could also pave the way forThe Last of Us Part 2to potentially make its way to PC, too.

The PC specs forThe Last of Us Part 1were posted to the official PlayStation blog, and some of the results may surprise gamers. The standout is perhaps the RTX 4080 card required to play the game smoothly on ultra settings. Considering the initial release of the game came in 2013, the requirements are definitely higher than some might have expected at the top end. However, the game does seem to scale really well on the lower end. For example, the GTX 970 graphics card was first released in 2014, and the game appears to be playable with that card, so gamers don’t necessarily need a monster of a machine to run it reasonably well.
Ultimately, the success of the game on PC will come down to the quality of the PC port. The game is a known quantity – no one out there is denying that it’s a brilliant video game. But there have been plenty ofamazing games with bad PC ports, and it can make a game unplayable if it’s bad enough. However, Naughty Dog’s delay of the game in February to give the game a final bit of polish suggests that the developer is dedicated to ensuring the port ofThe Last of Us Part 1is as good as it can possibly be.
The PC port ofThe Last of Us Part 1releases just a few weeks after the season finale of the show airs, and it’s a great way to keep the franchise in the public eye for a little while longer. WithThe Last of Usalready confirmed for a season 2, the franchise is here to stay for some time yet. Gamers will be hoping the runaway success of the TV show brings about a potentialLast of Us Part 3, although nothing has been officially confirmed by Naughty Dog so far.
