Summary

Since it first graced screens back in 2013,The Last of Ushas grown to be one of the greatest stories of survival in gaming history. What appeared to be just an interesting take on the zombie survival genre quickly surprised players by revealing itself as a gripping story that has since spawned a shocking sequel and inspired a successful television adaptation. The Last of Usproved to be devastating, but also beautiful, and the emphasis both games put on survival and questionable morals presented players with a horrifyingly realistic view of what the world could look like after societal collapse.

When it comes to the grittiness and rough nature of a post-apocalyptic landscape,The Last of Usfranchise nails it with its portrayal of trying to find hope in a hopeless situation, but a potential third game could actually learn something from an unexpected franchise; theArkhamgames. Batman seems like an unlikely source of inspiration for a franchise likeThe Last of Us, but one specific feature in theArkhamgames would give a new entry intoThe Last of Usstoryline an extra dash of realism and brutality.

One Arkham Feature Would Be Perfect in The Last of Us

After leaks last year claimedThe Last of Us 3was in development, many fans of the game have been wondering where the story will go from the heartbreaking finale ofThe Last of Us 2. The ending of the second game saw Ellie alone and wandering off into the unknown, and ifThe Last of Us 3continues the franchise’s trend of getting darker with each game, then Ellie is likely in for another brutal journey. This is where theArkhamgames come into play. The fan-favorite feature of battle damage would be a perfect fit for a series likeThe Last of Uswhere the characters are constantly faced with brutal circumstances.

Battle damage in theArkhamgameshas been beloved by many gamers since Rocksteady’sBatmanadaptation introduced the feature. The further the story progressed in theArkhamgames, the more damage appeared on Batman’s suit due to the various fights and attacks Gotham’s caped crusader dealt with. For games as realistic asThe Last of UsandThe Last of Us 2have been, featuring battle damage in a third game would be a perfect addition.

The characters inThe Last of Usgames go through many different trials and conflicts, but the clothing doesn’t seem to take any damage no matter how far along the story progresses. This is one of the few placesThe Last of Usgames fall flat on realism. Characters are seen in virtually the same clothing throughout the story which goes unchanged. After running through forests and destroyed cities to avoid the infected or fighting factionslike the WLF or the Seraphites, one would think that more damage would be done to their clothes.

Although there hasn’t been any official announcement yet, a third game in the series feels inevitable, andthe future ofThe Last of Ushas left the door wide open for many possibilities. If the next game in the franchise is just as brutal as the last two, then implementing the battle damage from theArkhamseries would be a welcome addition for many fans of the world Naughty Dog has brought to life. Not only would it just make sense, but playing as Ellie or another character would become even more compelling and immersive as gamers see the various characters become more damaged and affected by their environments as time goes on.The Last of Us 3may not be announced yet, but adding battle damage would be the cherry on top for a third entry.

The Last of Us Partis available now on PS4, PS5 and PC.
