Summary

As a twisted version of Superman, Homelander is easily one of the most powerful superheroes inThe Boys, both the comic books and the TV show that has successfully aired three seasons so far. Homelander’s powers made him the leader of The Seven, the best-known superhero team in the world, with a highly exclusive and sought-after membership.

Throughout the three seasons so far,The Boys, viewers witness Homelander becoming even more psychotic and unhinged over time as his carefully built position falls apart underneath his feet due to the work of his enemies. Despite their efforts to defeat him, Homelander is a tough nut to crack thanks to his many special powers.

Updated on July 09, 2025, by Jake Fillery:Homelander’s descent into cruelty and insanity have been showcased heavily over the course of The Boys, and now with Season 4, it seems there is nothing to stop Homelander. Publicity means nothing to him, and his conquest for violence is unsatiated. With his powers, Homelander is practically unstoppable, so it’s a good time to look at Homelander’s best powers in The Boys, and further deduce what makes him such an intimidating threat.

8Leadership And Charisma

Creating Fans and Haters is a True Power

It’s not all about special powers in Homelander’s case. While he’s immensely powerful, his strength also lies in his charisma and his leadership skills. When Starlight first joins the team, unaware of what’s awaiting her and naively optimistic, Homelander seems like the perfect leader – welcoming, kind, interested in what she has to say, and how she feels, and wanting to make her feel at ease.

Of course, as the audience and Starlight herself soon realize, Homelander is the worst of The Seven, even worse than the remaining superheroes who don’t bother to hide their impulses, unlike he does.Homelander is the public face of The Seven, and as such, he manages to retain a spotless public persona for a long time before he’s outed for sympathizing with Stormfront, a known Nazi. Even then, Homelander stays in The Seven, proving his ability to manipulate, threaten, or charm those around him makes him just as dangerous as his special powers.

7Super Speed

Breaking The Sound Barrier Is No Small Task

Whilst Homelander isn’t as fast as A-Train, he still has an incredible sense of speed. Not only does Homelander brag about breaking the sound barrier as a child, but he has also shown numerous times that he can fly extremely fast, becoming an angel of death for those who look above to see him flying like a blur.

Homelander is also so fast that he can react to punches and explosions, and he is even able to save Billy Butcher from a blast that could have killed him. The fact that Homelander can safely put Butcher out of harm’s way when an explosion has just been set off, shows just how incredibly fast and dangerous Homelander truly is.

6X-Ray Vision

Seeing Through Walls Won’t Help A Fistfight

Homelander’s enhanced senses don’t play as big a part in the series as his other powers. Most notably, he uses them when he’s searching for the missing member of The Seven, the invisible hero Translucent, and finds his dead body in a chest in the ocean, with the chest lined by zinc, the only metal Homelander’s superior sight cannot penetrate.

Homelander can use his x-ray vision to catch surprises that await him or to spy on unsuspecting prey from afar. This x-ray vision is great for a stakeout and knowing exactly what his enemies are up to from behind closed doors, even if it won’t exactly save anybody but himself.

5Super Hearing

No Words Can Be Hidden From The Homelander

Another one of Homelander’s heightened senses is his hearing. This is truly something to fear, knowing that no words spoken are safe from Homelander’s ears. The fact that Homelander can hear a conversation from miles away, detecting their blood pressure and heartbeat, makes him entirely unpredictable, all whilst he can predict practically everything about who he is listening to.

The use of Homelander’s super hearing makes it so that nothing is hidden from him, especially in Vought’s own offices. Homelander can always stay one step ahead because nobody can get a word in without him knowing about it, and challenging it.

4Healing Factor

Homelander Can Recover Easily From Wounds, But He Is Rarely Wounded

To make Homelander bleed is no easy task. The man is practically indestructible, so when he has been injured, it’s met with concern from Homelander and fear of what he will do from fans. Nevertheless, in the brief times Homelander has been hurt, it’s never lasted. Every next scene after an injury has always resolved cuts and bleeding from the villainous hero.

Homelander might not be the best fighter in the world, but being the strongest certainly helps him recover fast. It doesn’t matter what’s thrown at him, because he will simply heal it off within minutes, if not seconds.

3Strength

Physical Strength Is Nothing Without Physical Training

Superior strength is a fairly standard power when it comes to superheroes. In the end, it’s all about how they use it. In the show, Homelander mostly relies on his other powers. Even though he’s proficient in hand-to-hand combat, he prefers to keep his distance and blast people to oblivion rather than punching them to death. In The Seven, the combat specialist who relies on his strength and speed is Black Noir, not Homelander.

That said, Homelander can hold his own in a fight, as witnessed in the third season when the newly poweredHughie and Butcherjuice up and team up with Soldier Boy to take Homelander down. Homelander’s super strength is a welcome addition to his powers, but it’s not the core of them, considering his usual MO, and his inability to actually fight outside of having incredible strength.

2Flight

An Iconic Power Used For Bad

The power of flight not only gives Homelander the chance to accost his enemies, but it means he can also get to locations his fellow superhero colleagues aren’t able to reach as easily. Whenworking with Queen Maeve, Homelander easily flies up the tall building while Maeve has to take the elevator. And when saving the flight 37 that’s about to crash, Homelander is once again the only one who can save the day and fly the passengers out of there.

Of course, in the end, he chooses to let them die because he doesn’t care about human lives, and he knows it would cast a bad light on The Seven if he managed to save only some of the travelers. So, he lets all of them die. Combined with his enhanced senses, Homelander’s ability to fly means it’s very difficult to run from him once he decides to find someone and kill them.

1Heat Vision

His Most Used Weapon Of Murder

In the end, Homelander’s heat vision is his greatest strength, one that he uses to dispose of multiple enemies. He employs heat vision when he kills Madelyn Stillwell, his boss at Vought International. He does the same when he murders the newest member of The Seven, Starlight’s childhood friend and ex-boyfriend Supersonic, who’s secretly working against Homelander and is helping Starlight. Homelander threatens to blast the passengers on flight 37 when they attempt to move before leaving them to die. And the list goes on.

Unlike other Homelander’s powers, which can be countered, when choosing the right approach – such as his super strength, which takes several powered people to overcome – there are fewer options when combating his laser eyes. The best choice is to stay out of Homelander’s line of vision, but that’s easier said than done, considering the fact that Homelander can fly and burn people alive from the air in a matter of seconds. Even on its own, the heat vision would be a formidable weapon, but when combined with Homelander’s other powers, it makes him close to unstoppable.

Durability

Seemingly Unkillable

Part of what makes Homelander so dangerous is not just his unhinged personality that makes him become a threat to the world and those close to him, but his durability and invulnerability. Homelander is essentially immune to all attacks, as seen when people shoot at him, throw punches at him, or in Butcher’s case, attempt to blow him up.

Homelander always ends up unscathed and safe, no matter how bad the explosion or the damage would be to a normal person. Homelander always ends up soaked in someone else’s blood, and never his own, making him a diabolicalopponent who seems unkillable.
