The upcomingMega Manmovie, announced by publisher Capcomon October 4th of 2018, now has a new writer penning its script in Mattson Tomlin, perhaps best known as the screenwriter for DC’s future crime drama filmThe Batman.Mega-Manhas no window for release as of yet, butThe Batmanis currently scheduled to open in the US on June 25th of 2021.

Mega Manwill be the Blue Bomber’s first official movie, the closest he’s ever received before this beingseveral animated TV seriesand a 2010 feature-length film made by fans of the series. This outing to the silver screen should be a much higher budget adaption to the franchise, considering that it’s being handled by Chernin Entertainment, which has already made several films with 20th Century Fox (now 20th Century Studios) with production costs exceeding 100 million dollars.

Chernin Entertainment is notable for a variety of films, including the newerPlanet of the Apestrilogy,Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children,The Greatest Showman, andFord v Ferrari. In addition, the production company also worked on several television shows for Fox, includingNew GirlandTerra Nova. As manyprevious movies based on video gameshave shown, one exceptionally difficult hurdle in production is successfully adapting a virtual character into a live-action one. Hopefully, Chernin’s experience on films like thePlanet of the Apestrilogy, in which they were tasked with making convincing CGI apes, will transfer over toMega Man, helping to create convincing looking robots.

Tomlin is more of an unknown factor, as he currently has less published works on his résumé. He has written, directed, edited, and produced numerous short films, in addition to directing writing the screenplay for a 2008 movie titledThe Projectionist. Tomlin also hasfilms other thanThe BatmanandMega Manin the making, though none of them have yet released.

Tomlin’s involvement withMega Manwas announced via an article by The Hollywood Reporter. Other than stating that the film would beworked on by Tomlinand Chernin Entertainment, there was very little information aboutMega Manreleased along with the report. Notably, the movie’s previous writers, Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, aren’t mentioned, leaving their current relation to the project unclear.

Ideally, more information on theMega Manmovie will surface as time goes on, allowing for fuller, more educated opinions on the matter to be formed.

Mega Mancurrently has no release date, butThe Batmanis slated for June 25th, 2021.
