Super Smash Bros. Ultimatefans have been waiting patiently to see the next DLC fighter for Fighters Pass Vol. 2, and now it’s finally been confirmed. The next DLC fighter forSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis yet another Xbox-owned character in the form of Steve fromMinecraft, along with some otherMinecraftcharacters as alternate skins.
Steve fromMinecraftwas announced in an action-packed trailer that showed Mario in the middle of a fight with characters who are already on theSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateroster. The trailer also reveals some of the alternate skins that will be available for Steve inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. This includes Alex, along with fan favorite mobs like Zombie and Enderman. Unfortunately, fans weren’t able to get a deep dive into how Steve fromMinecraftplays inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, and they also weren’t treated to a release date. However,Super Smash Bros. Ultimategame director Masahiro Sakuraidid confirm that the next presentation will take place on October 3 in a segment called Fighting With Steve and Alex at the Minecraft Live event.
As previously mentioned, Steve fromMinecraftisn’t the first Xbox-owned character to make it to the ambitious crossover fighting game. Previously,Banjo and Kazooie were added toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateas DLC, though their inclusion was far more surprising. While Steve andMinecraftare owned by Microsoft and Xbox,Minecraftgames have continued to have a major presence on pretty much every gaming system imaginable, including Nintendo and PlayStation consoles.
It should be noted that Steve fromMinecrafthas been rumored to be coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimatefor quite some time. The rumors originated in a 5Channel leak that alsoaccurately predicted Erdrick fromDragon Questcoming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate. The other characters named in that leak, Ryu Hayabusa fromNinja Gaidenand DOOM Guy fromDoom, have yet to be announced.
It’s possible that Erdrick and Steve both coming toSuper Smash Bros. Ultimateis just a coincidence. After all, they are both iconic gaming characters, andSuper Smash Bros.is all about featuring as many popular gaming characters as possible. But there are still a few moreFighters Pass Vol. 2 charactersyet to be announced, so there is still time for the rest of the leak to be proven accurate.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimateis out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
