At LA Comic-Con (viaThe Direct) theLord of the Ringsstar confessed that his character won’t return to the Netflix series and clarified that fans would have to accept his death. Astin shared that fans frequently approach him, inquiring about his possible return inStranger Things' final season. He consistently responds with, “No, I’m Dead.” Additionally, he didn’t shy away from talking about flashback sequences.

[Fans would] say, ‘Are you gonna be in ‘Stranger Things’,’ and I would say, ‘No, I’m dead.’ But why couldn’t they do a flashback [for Season 5]… to a happier time with—I know why they won’t. Because it’s going to be Hopper and Joyce, and they’re not going to want to flashback to a time when she was actually happy [laughs].
Even though Astin is unsure about his return,Stranger Thingsfans are hopeful that the Duffer Brothers might give them a treat by including brief cameos by Bob and even Barb. Fans all know Vecna, or even a greater threat, will appear in the final season to wreak havoc in Hawkins.Vecna has the power of tormenting peoplewith their past traumas. So, it wouldn’t be shocking if Vecna crossed paths with Joyce again and made her recall when she was happy with Bob. Bringing back beloved TV characters isn’t new, and since David Harbour confirmed a clear ending in season 5, a surprise return of fan favorites inStranger Thingswould be great.
Everyone knows thatStranger Things season 5 will conclude the show, and many people attached to the show have seemingly confirmed that the series will have a satisfying ending.Millie Bobby Brown is even ready forStranger Thingsto end.
