20th Century Studioshas confirmed that filming on Hulu’s upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King’s 1973 short horror story,The Boogeyman, has officially begun on location in New Orleans.The Boogeymanwill be directed by Rob Savage, who also helmed the popular horror movie,Host.
StarsChris Messina and Sophie Thatcherwere the first to be announced as being attached to the project.The 20th Centuryhorror-thriller adaptation “follows a 16-year-old and her younger sister, still reeling from the death of their mother, as they’re targeted by a supernatural boogeyman, after their psychologist father has an encounter with a desperate patient in their house.”The Boogeymanis a production by 21 Laps, who’s future endeavors include the long awaited fourth season ofStranger ThingsandThe Adam Project. The film is being produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levin, and Dan Cohen, along with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who have been signed on as executive producers since 2018. The most recent draft of the script was written byBlack Swan’s Mark Heyman. Working alongside Heyman on the screenplay are writers Beck and Woods (A Quiet Place), as well as Akela Cooper (Malignant), who wrote the very first drafts for the film.

Now the loyal fans of King can get even more excited, as the arrival of new cast members has been revealed. Deadline reportsThe Suicide SquadandDunestar David Dastmalchian will be joining Messina and Thatcher on-screen. Actress Marin Ireland (The Umbrella Academy), Vivien Lyra Blair (Bird Box), and Madison Hu (Voyagers) are also set to be joining as co-stars. Dastmalchian has had quite the crazy ride these past few years, following the success of his epic performance in James Gunn’sThe Suicide Squad.
The actor most recently starredopposite Timothee Chalametand Oscar Isaac in the Oscar-nominated sci-fi adaptation,Dune. Although both previously mentioned films are a bit more on the lighter side when it comes to tonality, fans have also witnessed Dastmalchian tackle more horror inclined roles. This includes his work inBird Box,Twin Peaks, andPrisoners. Nonetheless, it will still be an exciting mystery to see what type of role Dastmalchian will eventually be cast as.
