Summary
OneStarfieldcollector is showing off their impressive hoard of illegal contraband that they have stockpiled in an outpost. Since its release earlier this year,Starfieldplayers have fully embraced roleplaying in the game, with some taking on the role of a fierce space pirate. One faction that most have chosen to align themselves with is theCrimson Fleet, the scourge of the star system within the game. And being a Bethesda game in the same vein asSkyrimandFallout 4, players can pillage pretty much any item they come across.
However, while there are no real consequences to being a space pirate if caught with some of these illegal items, players can end up on the wrong side of the law. These items are known ascontraband inStarfield, and players can acquire them from pirate ships or criminal hangouts throughout the star systems. In the early game, these rare items usually sell for a lot of credits and are a quick way for players to get rich fast to buy upgrades for their ships or even healing items.

In the later game, however, the selling price of contraband no longer outweighs the risk of being caught with them, and so they quickly lose their purpose, as oneStarfieldplayer found out. RicoculusPrime took to theStarfieldsubreddit to share with others a video of their collection of contraband that has been left piling up in one of their outposts. According to the level 95 player, they have amassed over 120 pieces of the illicit goods and have decided against selling the contraband, as they have found that certain guns and spacesuits have a higher price point.
Other players in the thread shared similar experiences with most agreeing that by the late game, their contraband served no purpose. Some said that even if they were tosellStarfield’s contraband, they would first have to get past the contraband scan and, if caught, would have to go to jail and begin the lengthy process of retrieving their goods. Some users felt that this was a shortsighted decision on Bethesda’s part, as the developer could have used the contraband check system as a way to add more immersion to the game in the form of persuasion checks to convince NPCs.
Despite these issues,Starfieldis considered to be one of the best games of 2023, with most agreeing that it has a solid foundation. Bethesda also agrees with this sentiment, as the company recently outlined a number of planned updates for the game in 2024, including new ways to travel and even city maps. With these new changes, only time will tell ifStarfieldwill go down in history as the space successor toSkyrim.
