Stardew Valleyplayer moschineo recently shared a snapshot of an unbelievable item drop they got while mining. TheStardew ValleySkull Cavernis notorious for having difficult levels yet valuable gemstones, so players who take the time to venture deep into these mines are often greatly rewarded. However, the treasure that moschineo found was truly astounding. After dropping a bomb to quickly break open several iridium and iron ore veins, they were greeted with three Prismatic Shards.

The Prismatic Shard is one of therarest items in Stardew Valleyand has one of the highest base selling prices. Players need to obtain at least one Prismatic Shard to complete the Missing Bundle, and four additional shards are needed to complete the Mr. Qi’s Four Precious Stones quest. Both the Missing Bundle and Mr. Qi quest are among the most difficult to complete, particularly because of the Prismatic Shard requirements. For a player to find three of the precious stones in a single mine run is incredibly uncommon, and for someone to find three shards all in the same area is almost unheard of.

FellowStardew Valleyfans reacted to the Prismatic Shard jackpot with shock and applause. Many attempted to do the math and figure out the statistical probability of such an outcome. The consensus was that iridium ore deposits all have a fixed Prismatic Shard drop-rate of 4%. Luck items and buffs only increase the probability of iridium ore veins spawning, but these do not increase the Prismatic Shard drop-rate. Thus, regardless of the number of iridium ores that were in the level, there was arguably a consistent 4% chance of the incredible drop occurring. Such arare occurrence inStardew Valleyis not entirely unheard of - other fans have had similar unbelievable surprises - but this particular treasure trove remains an incredible display of luck.
