Obi-Wan Kenobiis out and now fans finally have theStar Warsseries that they were hoping for. The Jedi-led series brought back Ewan Mcgregor and Hayden Christensen and even brought in the Grand Inquisitor, who had a slightly different look than fans of the animated shows remember.
Star Warshas recently been seeing its own revitalization with the televised episodic series. The movies used to be the primary format for fans to watch the iconic franchise, but now fans have been gravitating towards the episodic telling ofthe world ofStar Wars. Recently, fans have been seeing live-action versions of the animated characters, one of which is the Grand Inquisitor, who got a different look for the show that propmaster Brad Elliot said was an intentional choice.

Speaking to the official Star Wars website, Elliot recalled whatStar Wars Rebelswriter and producer Dave Filonihad told him while designing the character of the Grand Inquisitor. “Imagine the live-action came first, and that the animated material was an exaggerated version of the live-action,” Elliot said of Filoni’s advice. In the animated series, the character’s facial features were much more akin to an alien-type character than a human, but his design inObi-Wan Kenobilooked more familiar than it did extraterrestrial.
“This gave us permission to keep the form factor of the props established in animation, but to control the proportions and to bring them more in line with props made for human hands versus animated ones,” Elliot continued. A lot of the fan feedback wasn’t positivewhen it came to the Grand Inquisitor. So, to hear what the approach was is nice because Elliot’s explanation makes it more understandable for those that weren’t big fans of the design.
Hopefully moving forward many fans can get what they want while the directors and creators are able to make the design feasible. A world where both creator and viewer are happy is much more ideal than a world where they clash.TheStar Warslorehas a lot of interesting-looking characters and some definitely deserve the CGI treatment while others can easily be recreated through practical means.
Obi-Wan Kenobiwas a limited series, so fans shouldn’t expect anything else from the legendary Jedi besides the potential cameo from time to time. Moving forward,Star Warsshould consider telling more storiesfrom the past that amplify the humanity of these characters.
