The start of a new console generation this November came with a bevy of games on both Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. ThePS5 launched with a lot of exclusive titlesin particular, and Insomniac Games’Spider-Man: Miles Moralesachieved an impressive feat by toppingCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Waron the PS5’s most-downloaded chart for November 2020 in North America.

A PlayStation Blog post today specifically congratulatesMiles Moralesfor being the most-downloaded game in the US and Canada region during the console’s debut month. However, Activision’s first-person shooter franchise retains its juggernaut status withBlack Ops Cold Warbeing the most-downloaded PS5 gamein the EU, as well as the most-downloaded game in both regions on the PlayStation 4. That being said,Miles Moraleswas still the second most-downloaded PS5 game in the EU.

The remainder of the top 10 lists for PS5 downloads in both North America and the EU are about what one would expect, featuring major exclusive games likeDemon’s SoulsandSackboy: A Big Adventure, as well as cross-platform titles likeWatch Dogs: LegionandAssassin’s Creed Valhallain varying positions. Both lists outline the top 20 games overall, and there are recurring names throughout such asDevil May Cry 5: Special Edition,The Pathless,No Man’s Sky, andMortal Kombat 11.

DespiteCall of Duty’s yearly installments often dominating sales metrics for months after release, PlayStation Blog is not the first outlet to announceBlack Ops Cold Warwas beaten out during its launch period. Soon after the next-gen consoles released in mid-November, GamesIndustry.biz reported thatAssassin’s Creed Valhallaphysical sales beatCall of Dutyin the UK. Neither publication provides exact numbers, so the difference in sales for both these cases may be marginal.

Regardless, being the first anything can help a game’s longevity in public discourse, soSpider-Man: Miles Moralestopping the PS5’s most-downloaded chart in North America during the console’s launch month is a strong accolade. Insomniac Games has continued to adjust its latest venture into the Marvel Comics universe, with a recent update adding an extra performance mode.

As the PS5 moves into the December holiday season, it will be interesting to see how the popularity of certain titles shift. While it isn’t clear how the Xbox Series X/S' November sales stack up to the PS5,Microsoft announced that Game Pass engagement has surgedcompared to last year, and the company is gearing up to make announcements during The Game Awards tomorrow.

Spider-Man: Miles Moralesis available now on PS4 and PS5.
