Spider-Man: Freshman Yearwas first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2021 and was initially planned to be released on Disney Plus sometime in 2024, but not much news about the series has come out since the announcement. Fans know the series will be animated in a style that looks ripped right out of the comics and will feature Peter Parker going up against many different villains in his first year as Spider-Man.Daredevil will also appear inSpider-Man: Freshman Year,voiced by Charlie Cox.

Recently on X, Jeff Trammel, the executive producer and head writer forSpider-Man: Freshman Year, responded to a fan who asked for an update on the series. Trammel replied, “Nothing that I can share yet, just that I’m eager for everyone to see the show. Our crew worked (and is still working) hard to makeFreshman Yearfeel special, fun and unique and I’m excited for the world to see it!” With little news about the series, some fans were worried that the project had been delayed or canceled due to the ongoing strikes.
Recently, Disney has been purging content from their streaming platform. This includedcanceling theSpiderwick Chroniclesseries. These changes to their streaming platform come after Disney CEO Bob Iger said he plans to cut back on producing content for Disney Plus. These comments and other rumors have caused Marvel fans to worry about whether their projects will be delayed or canceled by Disney Plus.
AlthoughSpider-Man: Freshman Yearis an MCU prequel, it has been confirmed that it is a multiverse story that takes place outside the main continuity. This gives the show the freedom to be a standalone Spider-Man project, with no connections to the MCU, that can add any characters it wants. However, without a link to the rest of the MCU, it can easily be scrapped without affecting future projects.
Luckily for Spider-Man fans,Freshman Yearis still in development, and it sounds like the creators are doing everything they can to give fans something new. There is still no definitive release date for the project, but hopefully, fans will hear something soon if they can still expect this series in 2024.
