With so many rumors circulating about the possible crossovers we could see in Marvel’s Phase 4, it’s hard to know what to believe nowadays. Adding to the confusion is yet another rumor that has sent the internet into a frenzy; this time regarding the upcomingSpider-Man: No Way Homefilm. While the news is still very much speculatory, there are some rather convincing details about the situation that are just too interesting to ignore, and they involve often those Tobey Maguire rumors.
In a recent episode of the Spanish podcast El Sotano, Roger Pera, the Spanish dub actor for Tobey Maguire inSam Raimi’sSpider-Mantrilogy, was asked if he would be dubbing for anySpider-Manprojects in the near future. Pera confirmed that he has been talking to Sony and that something is definitely in the works; though he admitted that he thought the deal was fake at first. Now, he is pretty sure that something “is going to happen” and that they “are going to work on it.”

Connecting the dots, it could be assumed that Pera just spoiled Maguire’s return to the big screen, via a cameo appearance inSpider-Man: No Way Home.What makes it even more convincing is the fact that the original video was deleted, edited, and re-uploaded to exclude Pera’s statements. Such observation was made by Sebastian Puerta, the Twitter source who provided the clip:
El Sotano later took to Twitter to clarify the situation. In their released statement, they assert that Pera could not confirm anything related to an upcomingSpider-Manmovie “due to the lack of any information” and that “any claim to that effect has no basis.” Despite their attempts to dispel the rumor, many fans still refuse to let it go.
Even when Tom Holland publicly claimed Maguire andThe Amazing Spider-Man’s Andrew Garfieldwould not be appearing inNo Way Home, people were still skeptical. Holland has a history of accidentally leaking confidential information, so Marvel often withholds certain plot details from him (sometimes even going as far as redacting certain lines in his script). Regardless of what Holland said, the crossover possibilities are still up in the air, especially considering Doctor Strange appears inSpider-Man: No Way Home, just before the sorcerer’s own sequel explores the multi-verse.
Until Marvel comes out with an official statement confirming Maguire’s return, fans will have to takeall of theseSpider-Manrumorswith a grain of salt. For now, we can be confident that Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Zendaya’s Michelle Jones, and J.K. Simmons' J. Jonah Jameson will all be a part ofNo Way Home.
