After Bungie decided to makeDestiny 2’s endgame activities much more challenging, YouTuber Datto has received blame from some members of theDestinycommunity. Endgame activities are the most significant source of gaining power levels inDestiny 2. While some fans have taken to various social media forums to voice their concerns over this bump in difficulty, a seemingly vocal minority are instead blaming content creators for ushering in these changes. One of the strong points ofDestiny 2is the large selection of activities players can participate in for appropriately powerful rewards. InDestiny 2, players can either engage with each other in the Crucible and fight against AI combatants while fending off other invading players in Gambit, or take part in various PvE-focused activities such as Strikes, Nightmare Hunts, and plenty more. While the Crucible and Gambit have an element of PvP involved; the difficulty in aspirational PvE activities is only limited by player skill and team coordination. Even thoughDay 1 Raids inDestiny 2still offer a significant amount of challenge, Bungie feels that other endgame activities have fallen behind thanks to players being extremely powerful.RELATED:Bungie Details Destiny 2: Lightfall’s Weapon Crafting ChangesIn a recent blog post,Bungie outlined a series of changes coming toDestiny 2’s pinnacle PvE activities, bringing them in line with current player power. Despite increasing difficulty across the board being a controversial decision, manyDestiny 2players voiced their support in favor of these changes, including one of the more prominent YouTubers coveringDestiny 2, Stefan “Datto” Jonke. Well known for providing personal commentary on the game’s issues, Datto has been a polarizing figure in theDestiny 2community for advocating some of the less-than-popular changes. And a small section of the community has taken up pitchforks to pin the blame on the YouTuber’s comments as the catalyst for these changes.
Datto explained in a 26-minute-long video that some of the changes like thedifficulty increase that Bungie is bringing toDestiny 2’s endgameare good for the game’s future. The YouTuber championed Bungie’s decision to promote skillful and coordinated gameplay in difficult encounters and stated that aspirational content should be difficult to match the powerful rewards. A few players took to Twitter and Reddit to voice their opinions against Datto for advocating such “elitist” opinions. Players should keep in mind that most of these opinions are personal and do not represent the outlook of the entireDestiny 2community.
Players should also extend the same courtesy to Datto himself, as he has always maintained that his videos are strictly personal opinions. In the aforementioned video, Datto points out Bungie’s confusing wording about Lost Sector difficulty is concerning. He further explained that some of the pinnacle rewards do not match the level of difficulty, and Bungie should address that point as well. He ends the video by stating that players should wait for Lightfall to launch andexperienceDestiny 2’s newest expansion for themselvesbefore forming any concrete opinion.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. TheLightfallexpansion pack is due to launch on all platforms on February 28.
