Nintendois something of a powerhouse when it comes to video games. Sitting pretty much at the top of the industry’s food chain, the company has a reputation for innovative technology and being the home of one of the most famous icons in gaming history. With the world waiting for theSwitch OLED to be released this October, the company is looking to move forward with the times. However, that doesn’t mean it’s forgotten the old classics, as a recent rumor suggests N64 games may be coming to the hybrid console at some point.
Speaking about it on their latest podcast, Nate the Hate, an industry insider who goes by NateDrake believes thatNintendowill be releasing N64 titles to its Switch Online service. According to a report, this information has since been corroborated by additional sources, including Eurogamer, who say that the information given is accurate and that it may even be possible that the gaming conglomerate could unveil “additional platforms” that may be added to the hybrid system as well.

This ties in with other rumors that were doing the rounds recently. A couple of weeks ago, there were speculations thatNintendo Switch Online may also be adding Game Boy and Game Boy Color gamesto its roster. However, NateDrake does warn of a caveat if the company does add N64 games to the Switch, saying that it will likely come at a price. The insider goes on to say that it could bring about a “premium version” of NSO if the plan goes ahead, which will mean users will have to pay extra to play such classics asGoldeneyeorMario 64.
That said, it’s impossible to know exactly which games the Switch would give access to if the company does go ahead with it. While the retro cartridge system has its classics, theNintendo 64 also has a host of rare games such asBanjo-Tooie. Whether these would become part of the proposed N64 collection remains to be seen.
However, it is worth stating at this stage that NateDrake’s words are just a rumor, and Nintendo has not confirmed or denied whether it will be introducing N64 games to the Switch.NSO already gives access to more than a hundred classic titles, including those for the NES and SNES consoles. However, there’s an argument to be had that it could benefit from more retro games, and the chance to add the Nintendo 64 to its service would almost certainly go down a treat for a lot of fans.
