Summary
An Ultimate Edition ofCyberpunk 2077could be in the works if a recently published rating from Europe’s PEGI is to be believed. CD Projekt Red launched both its 2.0 update forCyberpunk 2077and itsPhantom Libertyexpansion recently, dramatically updating the first-person RPG. While no further major updates are planned, CD Projekt Red may still have some ideas for how to repackageCyberpunk 2077going into 2023’s holiday season.
CD Projekt Red is no stranger to releasing final editions that collect the entirety of a game’s released content – and often more. There are Enhanced Editions for bothThe WitcherandThe Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Editionincludes both of the game’s two massive expansions,Hearts of StoneandBlood and Wine, plus plenty of extra DLC. They are undoubtedly definitive collections for each of CD Projekt Red’s releases.
Cyberpunk 2077’s definitive collection may be arriving surprisingly soon. A filing published by the European rating board PEGI was made public forCyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Editionrecently. The rating included notes for mature content, including violence, bad language, and sex. It also listed the Xbox Series X/S as a release platform, and put June 04, 2025, as its release date. It should be noted that the filing wouldn’t mean it’s not coming to other platforms like PC and PS5. The release date is likely also temporary.
As for whether aCyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Editionmakes sense, that’s a question consumers would have to decide. An edition that combines both theCyberpunk 2077base game and itsPhantom Libertyexpansiondoes make sense. It also makes sense to create a definitive package if CD Projekt Red isn’t planning to release any future content forCyberpunk 2077. In those regards, aCyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Editionmakes perfect sense.
What’s less certain is if it makes sense to release aCyberpunk 2077definitive edition so quickly after putting out the game’s expansion.Phantom Libertycame out one week agoand remains full-priced at $29.99. Releasing an Ultimate Edition relatively soon, perhaps discounting the two products compared to their individual prices, may be looked at negatively by players.
Compared toCyberpunk 2077’s prior controversies, the quick release of a definitive edition is hardly worth mentioning. If anything, it’d be a great opportunity for those whowaited for CD Projekt Red to patchCyberpunk 2077. It’d encourage players not to pre-order, to ensure games are finished and functional when they do play. That’s a healthy approach. Whether CD Projekt Red is genuinely working on aCyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Editionis yet to be confirmed, though.
Cyberpunk 2077is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
