ARed Dead Redemption 2player has shown off a hilarious clip, in which they get team-killed by Dutch Van Der Linde. It’s no secret thatDutch turns on Arthur inRed Dead Redemption 2, but this happens slightly earlier than expected.

Dutch Van Der Linde is the overall antagonist of theRed Dead Redemptionseries, with the smooth-talking gunslinger captivating gamers across his two appearances. The character was already iconic after his role in the original game, but the sequel gave Dutch even more layers of depth that many just did not see coming. Even in a cast of well-written characters, Dutch stands out amongst the crowd, which is no small feat.

Redditor purplepenguin4163 posted the comical video, which shows Arthur being run down by Dutch, who promptly shoots him in the face and kills him. Arthur just appears to be in the way, and Dutch’s AI has absolutely no regard for either of their positions. The AI does seem to struggle with the gun physics in the game, resulting in some bizarre clips. One unluckyRed Dead Redemption 2NPC accidentally shot himself, so it’s clear that Rockstar didn’t have trigger discipline high on its list of priorities during development.

Gamers in the thread had their own fan theories about thisRed Dead Redemption 2clip, particularly about how it relates to Dutch turning on Arthur later in the game. One player claimed it was part of Dutch’s plan all along, with this footage the culmination of that plan. Another user claims that he was just “trying to do the same thing he did with John,” leaving him for dead when it’s convenient for his plan. Even if this is just a strange glitch, it’s interesting to connect the dots to see if there are any fun connections to be made.

It will be interesting to see ifDutch Van Der Linde will return forRed Dead Redemption 3. The character has a very defined middle and end that will now likely remain untouched forever, but there are certainly some questions about his beginnings that another game could answer. Many think the story we have for him now is perfect, and that’s also a perfectly valid view to hold. Retreading the Van Der Linde gang does certainly restrict the storytelling potential for another game, but if any studio can make it work, it’s Rockstar. Many felt Arthur Morgan was unnecessary as a protagonist prior toRed Dead Redemption 2’s release, and that’s an opinion practically no one holds now. One thing is for sure - fans can put trust in Rockstar.

Red Dead Redemption 2is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
