Collector’s Edition ofPsychonauts 2will feature cut content that did not make it into the game’s original release. Double Fine released the long-awaited follow-up to the studio’scult-classic 2006 platformerPsychonautslast year, and it appears that developers left a significant amount of content on the cutting room floor. Fans will finally get a peek at some of these axed concepts when the Collector’s Edition releases later this year.
Double Fine’s Director of Communications and Marketing James Spafford talked about the cut contentin a recent Screen Rant interview. He was joined by Anna Bihari, the Director of Product and Retail for iam8bit, who has partnered with Double Fine to make thePsychonauts 2Collector’s Edition a reality.

The upcoming Collector’s Edition includes a variety of goodies for fans of the literally mind-bending series. But while Collector’s Edition merchandise can be great, Spafford drew special attention toPsychonauts 2’s cut content. “So, I hope people find a lot of stuff in there that we cut from the game because we just didn’t have time to make them,” said Spafford. These include a variety of powers and even plot points that never made it into the game for one reason or another. However, he also noted that the cut content heavily influenced the gamePsychonauts 2became, noting that “they all connect somewhere.”
The Collector’s Edition includesPsychonautsandPsychonauts 2. The former comes on a separate disk printed exclusively for thePsychonauts 2Collector’s Edition. Iam8bit notes that this is the first time abackward compatible Original Xbox gamehas ever received a physical release for the Xbox one. That arguably makes it a unique collectible in its own right.
The Collector’s Edition also comes with a variety of other exclusive merchandise. This includes the Lenticular O-Sleeve, Die-cut Sticker Pack, Six Art Cards, Collectors Edition Reversible Cover Sheet, and Exclusive Behind the Scenes content that came withPsychonauts 2’s Motherlobe Edition. The Collector’s Edition also comes with a Digital Download Code for all three volumes of thePsychonauts 2Soundtrack. Additional items include five Feast of the Senses Pins, an 18x24” Blacklight Poster ofPsychonauts 2protagonist Raz,an exclusive “Raz’s Archetype” poster by Chris Lam, an extra sticker sheet, and an exclusive Collector’s Edition Box. The game also features new Collector’s Edition Box Art by Arno Kiss.
ThePsychonauts 2Collector’s Edition will be released in the fourth quarter of 2022. It will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Iam8bit prices it at $129.99, andPsychonautsfans can pre-order it now from the company’s website. Unfortunately for fans who pickedPsychonauts 2up on Steam, there is no mention of a PC release at this time.
