Many PS4 or PS5 owners likely have thePS Plusreveal-release cadence memorized, as Sony almost always reveals the upcoming games on the final Wednesday of a prior month before releasing them on the first Tuesday of the actual month. Last Wednesday, Sony confirmed that thePS Plus free games for May 2023wereGrid Legends, Chivalry 2, andDescenders, and these three titles are available now.
As a whole, many may feelthe PS Plus May games are somewhat lackluster. Each has solid reviews, but they are all rather niche:Grid Legendsis a racing game,Chivalry 2is a medieval combat game, andDescendersis a cycling game. At the same time, fans of those genres who have not checked these games out are in for a treat, at the very least.

Of course, all threePS Plusgames can be downloaded to either console; players will just not be playing a PS5 native version ofDescenderson their current-gen system. Luckily, the file sizes for these games are not large either. Depending on the console,Grid Legendsis 38 or 46 gigs,Chivalryis between 22 and 23 gigs, andDescenderscomes in at a rather small 6 gigs.
PS Plus Free Games for May 2023
Of course, those who are perhaps disappointed by this line-up have plenty on the horizon to look forward to. June is always a new month, for example, but Sony will also release the PS Plus Extra and Premium games later this month. Because this selection is usually much bigger, fans are more likely to find something that appeals to them. Next to nothing is known about them yet, but it should be noted that Sony has already confirmedHumanityas a day one PS Plus Extra title. In it, players become a dog that must lead humans through various puzzles and levels, and while it has plenty to offer on its own, it also supports user-generated content.
Sony may have some more surprises to reveal later this month, but that may or may not be related to PS Plus. For example, several gaming conventions or events have already been announced for June, but many fans are eagerly awaiting aPlayStation Showcase. When/if that happens is up in the air, though.
PS Plussubscribers get a handful of games every month.
