Call of Duty: Modern Warfareseems to only have high highs and low lows these days, going from fun updates to game-breaking glitches. One exploit that has the professional gaming community in an uproar is actually not a new exploit at all, but avery infamous one fromModern Warfare 2back in the day. The exploit takes advantage of the killcam function to allow players to see the enemy map, thus seeing the entire enemy team’s locations as well.
Modern Warfarecan’t seem to stay out of the spotlight, for better or worse. With the recent success of the Season 4 update andthe excitement of Season 5 around the corner, the game has had a lot of good going for it lately. This one negative could overshadow most of the positive, however, as pro players are rightfully upset about how something could be allowed to go on for so long.

The exploit is fairly simple in its idea. When a player is killed, they get to see the killcam and watch from the enemy’s perspective how exactly that kill happened. However, the player also has access to the rest of the enemy’s perspective, including their map. This means that, while a player is watching the killcam, they can pull up the enemy’s map and see the locations of other enemy players.
Whether players are casual or competitive, this is a big deal. A team could in theory send one person in to die over and over, constantly being aware of the enemy teamand calling out their positions to teammates. To the enemy perspective, the cheating team just somehow always knows where they are. This might be how it took so long for this large of an uproar to happen.
This is dire news for the competitive community, because the biggestCall of Dutyprize pool ever—totaling $4.6 million—is just around the corner. One seasonedCall of Dutyplayer, Patrick “ACHES” Price, explained that the exploit has been in the game since the beginning. Some professionals, such as Austin “SlasheR” Liddicoat, have voicedconcern about teams having taken advantage of this exploitthroughout the competitive season already.
Hopefully this exploit will be fixed soon, but fans are upset that it took this long and this much professional anger for it to finally be noticed. With the recentWarzonecheater address, hopefully that means Modern Warfare will get more attention as well. The nextCall of Dutyentry is coming out in just a few short months, and players can only wonder what issues that one will have at release as well.
Call of Duty Modern Warfareis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
