Back in June, The Pokemon Company made the announcement that it would be teaming up with Tencent’s TiMi Studios to bring a newPokemongame to both the Nintendo Switch and mobile, calledPokemon Unite, with crossplay between the two versions. The game itself is aPokemonMOBA, similar toLeague of LegendsorDota 2, and is new territory for the series. Now it seems new screenshots have been leaked for the game, offering new insight into what players can expect.
To say that the announcement ofPokemon Unitewas met with negative feedback would be an understatement. The reveal trailer for the game received over 137,000 dislikes within 24 hours of its release, making it themost disliked video in The Pokemon Company’s history.

Since the game’s reveal, both The Pokemon Company and TiMi Studios have remained relatively silent onPokemon Unite, leaving manyfans skeptical over thePokemonMOBA. However, it now appears screenshots of the game have begun popping up on Chinese social media.

There is a lot of information to be gleaned from these possible screenshots. From the image with the trainer and Charizard, it looks like players may have the ability to choose their character before they head into the game. Another of these screenshots looks like it could be a draft screen, similar to the ones used for professional play in other MOBAs. And if players look closely at the possible draft screen, players can see the legendaryPokemonZeraora, seemingly confirming thatlegendaryPokemonwill be playable.
It also seems players will be able to customize the looks of their trainers inPokemon Unite. While this could offer players the ability to express themselves by giving their trainer a distinct look that matches their style, Tencent has a tendency of including microtransactions in its games likePUBG Mobile.

It’s hard to tell from these screenshots alone whether or notPokemon Unitewill be worthwhile or a mistake for The Pokemon Company. While it’s an interesting choice to have crossplay support with mobile, it’s easy to see how this could possibly limit the amount of depth aPokemonMOBA could have. It looks like fans and opposers of the game alike will just have to wait to find out more.
Pokemon Uniteis currently in development for mobile devices and Nintendo Switch.
