Following months of speculation and rumors,Pokemon Scarlet & Violetare finally here. The ninth-generationPokemongames bring with them plenty of bit changes to the series' tried and tested formula, including a rather drastic shake-up to the Pokedex. Likethe Gen 8Pokemongames, there are hundreds of Pokemon who didn’t make the cut, leading many players to wonder just how many Pokemon are there inScarlet&Violet.

Much likethe Galar Pokedexbefore it,the Paldea Pokedex contained 400 Pokemon at launch, though that number increased quite a bit over time, with the games' two DLC expansions adding in a few hundred additional Pokemon from past generations as well as a handful of new Pokemon. Whether or not there’ll be any more DLC remains to be seen. For now, though, players will just have to hope that their favorites are already included or accept that they may have to wait a while before catching them inPokemon Scarlet & Violet.

Updated July 13, 2025, by Tom Bowen:The Teal Mask DLC brought with it plenty of new and returning Pokemon for players to track down, with the Kitakami Pokedex featuring 200 Pokemon. The Indigo Disk expansion was even more fruitful for fans of older Pokemon, with the Blueberry Dex containing a monstrous 242 creatures, including every starter Pokemon to date. It’s important to note that there is quite a lot of overlap between the three Pokedexes and a decent amount of version exclusives. Even so, players can now obtain most of the Pokemon from the National Dex within Scarlet & Violet, with pretty much all of those that can’t be caught available via trading.
