A fan of Nintendo and Game Freak’sPokemon Scarlet and Violethas shared a screenshot of a strange bug they encountered that left them battling an unseen Sudowoodo. This unusual glitch is just the latest in a series of technical problems anddesign decisions inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthat have left some long-time franchise fans feeling less than enthused about the pair of titles.
Releasing just under a year after the highly praisedPokemon Legends: Arceusshook up the world of Pokemon with its time-traveling storyline,Pokemon Scarlet and Violetmarks the latest evolution of the long-running franchise. Trading outArceus’ hub system in favor of the series’ first truly open world,Pokemon Scarlet and Violethave been massive sales successes for Nintendo and Game Freak despite numerous technical issues that have marred some players’ experience with the titles. The duo of games has even managed to bring new players to the franchise, as highlighted by the amusing story shared by a student whoseteacher became addicted toPokemon Scarlet and Violetafter the games were recommended to them.

Showing off one of the most unusualglitches inPokemon Scarlet and Violetseen to date, Reddit user HabanyGaming posted a screenshot of their battle with an invisible Sudowoodo during a recent gameplay session. The screenshot shows their Breloom posted up and prepared to fight, but with only a life bar floating in empty space to indicate the presence of their unseen Rock-type opponent. Joking that they assume Sudowoodo isn’t usually invisible in the game, HabanyGaming used the bizarre bug as a reason to ask if any intentionally invisible Pokemon had appeared in previous games.
Eager to show off their encyclopedic knowledge of the Pokedex, severalPokemon Scarlet and Violetfans responded to HabanyGaming’s post by pointing out the appearance of invisible Pokemon such as Silph, Mew, and Kecleon in variousPokemongames and anime. Other comments pointed out Kecleon’s appearance inPokemon Ruby and Sapphire, where the invisible, chameleon-inspired Pokemon could only be discovered by players randomly bumping into it in the game world, along with numerous other appearances by invisible Pokemon over the years. Delivering an epic comic retort to HabanyGaming’s question, one user simply replied “Haven’t seen one.”
Unlike some of the other bugs found by players ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, luckily this vanishing Sudowoodo was more comical than catastrophic. While no one wants to encounter bugs in a game they love, at least HabanyGaming managed to capture a picture to document the unusual occurrence. If nothing else, turning invisible is probably a far more effective defensive strategy than the one shown in a recent clip of aDitto transforming into itself.
