Summary

A creativePokemonfan has designed Christmas versions of Gen 2 starters Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. The Johto region creatures debuted inPokemon Gold and Silverfor the Game Boy Color back in 1999. Despite being introduced several decades ago, the three rank highly among thebest starter trios inPokemonhistory. All three were featured prominently in the anime and have continued to reappear in the franchise’s various games over the years.

WhilePokemonfan art is a popular year-round activity among the community, some artists really get into the holiday spirit with their creations. It’s not just Christmas, either. Many artists like celebrating the spooky season too, like the fan who createdHalloween-themed Kanto Pokemon starters. Despite the time of year, the community always seems to enjoy amazing fan creations, and with the holiday season in full swing, things have gotten a bit more festive.

Reddit user Matratzfratz shared their designs of Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile, all featuring a Christmas theme. Chikorita sports a wreath around its neck and a lit candle wick on its head. Cyndaquil, on the other hand, is bundled up to look like a snowman. Meanwhile, Totodile is designed to look like an adorable gingerbread cookie. All three creatures maintain their recognizable shape and design but feature a look fit for the holidays.

Matratzfratz shares that, when designing the three Pokemon, they had pictured Chikorita as a Grass and Fire-type, Cyndaquil as an Ice-type, and Totodile as a Fairy-type. While the artist didn’t rename the creatures, as many like to do, one commenter suggested the titles Cyndachill, Flickorita, and Tastydile. Additionally, the Reddit user, CambrianKennis, threw out the idea Chickowreatha as an alternative to Flickorita. Either way, the monikers keep the spirit of the fun pun-inspired naming conventions thatPokemonhas become known for over the years.

For fans feeling nostalgic,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk DLC has made previous starters available.Unlocking the 24 starterPokemonin the Indigo Diskis admittedly a bit time-consuming, but it’s worthwhile for trainers who want to add these fan-favorite creatures to their teams. Not to mention, it’s an excellent way to shiny hunt these Pokemon.

Additionally, many fans are predicting that the follow-up toPokemon Legends: Arceuscould take place in the Johto region. The initial game took trainers back in time to another era of the Sinnoh region, but many believePokemon Legends: Arceusteased future settingslike Kanto and Johto. Whether or not these come to fruition remains to be seen, but with a new year approaching, it is only a matter of time before fans get a glimpse at the next video game project from Game Freak and The Pokemon Company.
