As the world becomes increasingly dominated by social media, it makes sense that policing copyright infringement would become a bigger priority than ever before. After all, the use of copyright claims has already been a force for good in the gaming world a number of times, one instance being in June last year when Twitch sued a handful of users that wereillegally streaming copyrighted movies on the site. However, on occasion, copyright strikes don’t exactly work how they’re intended to.
Case in point, February 2, wherePlayStation’sofficial Twitter icon was hit with a copyright strike, the image replaced by a caption simply reading “Media not displayed. This image has been removed in response to a report from the copyright holder.” It seems PlayStation had hilariously managed to launch a copyright claim against its own profile’s icon, soon going viral as Twitter users found the company’s situation hilarious.
