Sony’sPlayStation Nowsubscription service gives PS4 and PS5 gamers instant access to a ton of games, with new titles added regularly. Recently, Sony announced that big games likeBorderlands 3andMarvel’s Avengerswould be coming toPlayStation Now, and since both games allow for free PS5 upgrades, those with Sony’s new console were excited to play the updated versions. However, it’s now been confirmed that’s not possible.

At the time of this writing, PlayStation Now consists purely of PS2, PS3, and PS4 games, with no PS5 titles offered at all. Assuming Sony plans to keep hosting the PlayStation Now service, one has to imagine that will change eventually. And maybe when PlayStation Now adds PS5 games, the service will allow for users to play the updated versions of the games instead of only the last-generation versions. However, that’s just speculation at this time, as Sony has not given any indication of when it is going toadd PS5 games to PlayStation Now, if it plans on doing so at all.
Thenew PlayStation Now games for April 2021show that Sony is serious about adding big games to the service, but the lack of PS5 support is concerning to some. It could be taken as a sign that Sony isn’t interested in continuing PlayStation Now in a serious way on the next-generation platform, but fans shouldn’t worry too much just yet. Sony could just be waiting for the PlayStation 5 generation to get some games and for the PS5 itself to be in more households first.

Sony seems to focus more of its marketing efforts on pushing PlayStation Plus instead of PlayStation Now. Thefree PS Plus gamestypically include some heavy hitters, giving fans across both PS4 and PS5 new free titles to play on a monthly basis. This month’s lineup is headlined byOddworld: Soulstormon PS5, a brand new release, andDays Goneon PlayStation 4.
Maybe Sony will continue focusing on PlayStation Plus instead of PlayStation Now, but withgrowing competition from Xbox Game Pass, that may not be the best move. Whatever the case may be, PlayStation gamers can still look forward to new titles coming to PlayStation Now regularly, even if PS5 games aren’t included just yet.
