While 2019 was a little slow for PlatinumGames, it was still a successful one. The Nitnendo Switch exclusive,Astral Chain, proved to be a big hit with players and critics alike while alsopulling in stellar review scores. However, Platinum Games is apparently gearing up for a bigger year in 2020 thanks to a number of projects getting closer to launch.
In a new statement,PlatinumGamesstudio president Kenichi Sato and studio head Atsushi Inaba have begun to tease a number of big announcements for 2020. While neither get into specifics, Sato reveals that the studio will have several big announcements early in the year and that PlatinumGames is looking to go all out thanks in large part to the world’s attention being on Tokyo for the Summer Games.

Last year, we said that 2019 would be a year where the curtain rises for a new stage for PlatinumGames. We’re a bit late on that, but I believe we’ll have several big announcements to deliver early in the new year, so please look forward to that. That’s a promise I’ll definitely keep [laughs].
Inaba goes on to comment that the studio will have both big and small announcements to share throughout 2020, though neither he or Sato go into any detail as to what at least some of the announcements will be related to.
Fans are well aware that the studio is currently working onBayonetta 3as well as the recently revealedBabylon’s Fall. Despite being revealed in 2017 at The Game Awards, fans have yet to see any actual footage ofBayonetta 3. The studio isn’t saying much either, thoughHideki Kamiya did recently respond to a fanby saying development is going really well.
The company, as well as me personally, will continue taking on new challenges, and I want to give it everything we’ve got.
While those two games are likely getting more announcements in 2020, the studio is alsoplanning to launch a 10th anniversary double packof the stylish action gameVanquishas well asBayonetta. The game is set for launch on PS4 and Xbox One in February.
Outside of the known projects likethe mysteriousBayonetta 3, rumors and theories have started to surface about additional projects the studio may or may not be working on. Specifically, it appears that the Okami franchise may be making a return, thanks in large part to a video Tweeted by the popular game developer Ikumi Nakamura. Nakamura is standing with Hideki Kamiya who specifically says thatOkamiis coming back. While nothing else is given, it’s possible that another collaboration between Capcom and Platinum could be happening.
