Star Points are guaranteed for every enemy (or enemies) you defeat, but you’ll also receive Coins and occasionally an Item. However, since Items aren’t always a definite and your Coin and Star Points earnings may be low, you may be wondering how to increase the rewards. InThe Thousand-Year Door, Merlee, a Fortune Teller, can grant you reward bonuses outside and even in battle. The effects themselves are randomized, but her deals are well worth your Coins.
Where to Find Merlee (Fortune Teller)
Rogueport Underground
Merlee’s hut is all the way in the background in the Rogueport Underground (east):
You may have found the other Fortune Teller, Merluvlee, in Rogueport. Unlike Merlee, you’re able to visit Merluvlee before Hooktail’s Castle. Merluvlee won’t grant you battle Fortunes, but she can point you in the direction of Star Pieces and Shine Sprites.

Fortunes have a chance of triggering during or after battle, but you won’t be able to choosewhenthey occur. There are four types of Fortunes inThousand-Year Door:
The “battle” Fortunes only affect Mario.

Special Path

The most expensive is the Special Path, but 50 Coins may not be too pricey depending on where you’re at in the playthrough. It’s recommended you choose the Special Path if you’re going into an area with tons of enemies (ex: Pit of 100 Trials). The Special Path purchase can also be useful if you’retrying to farm Star Pointsand Coins.

If you’re using Merlee’s Fortunes as soon as they become available to you, then you may want to choose the Normal Path (20 Coins). Completing Chapter 2 opens up new badges that you can purchase at Lovely Howz of Badges, so you might want to put your money towards battle supplies for the time being.
