World of Warcraftis one of the most enduring titles of all time. Originally released over 15 years ago, the game has remained relevant thanks toexpansion packsthat offer a range of new content. Even with new material to work with, long-time players of the game have likely seen and done it all, and look for new ways to enjoy their favorite game. One user has taken a peaceful approach to grinding levels, playing the game with a pacifist mindset.

The latest expansion,Shadowlands, became the fastest-selling PC title of all time when it released last month. While it has already been eclipsed byCyberpunk 2077, selling 3.7 million units worldwide on day one is a huge accomplishment forWorld of Warcraft.Shadowlandsis a big leap for the franchise, as some of the changes introduced seem to be focused onwelcoming new players to theWorld of Warcraft. However, veterans have plenty to work with too, with some choosing to take unorthodox approaches when jumping in.

One player who goes by Doubleagent has gone completely pacifist in their grind to level 60. When a player chooses the Pandaren race, they begin their adventure in the Wandering Isle zone, which is neutral territory. When they leave the area to access the rest of the game’s content, they must make a choice to join either the Alliance or the Horde, the two main factions ofWorld of Warcraft.

Doubleagent, in their quest to remain neutral, levelled up their Pandaren character entirely in Wandering Isle, reaching the level cap without making the decision to join one side or the other by picking flowers for experience points. While thefastest grind to level 60was achieved in three hours, Doubleagent’s quest took a couple weeks.

This is not the first time that Doubleagent has gone this route inWorld of Warcraft. ForWoW’sLegionexpansion, Doubleagent spent 8,000 hours grinding from level 1 to 110 in a similarly pacifist manner. Blizzard even created an NPC as a tribute to Doubleagent’s neutral approach: the Venerable Shaman. While other players are already ponderingwhatShadowlands' Bastion means forWorld of Warcraft, and digging into content further into the expansion, Doubleagent seems at peace with their neutral early-game path.

World of Warcraftis many things to many people at this point. People play the game in a number of ways, and it works. Thefan community forWoWis strong, and will likely continue to be for years to come as long as expansions keep coming.
