Summary

God of War Ragnarokfeatures the god-killer Kratos, who is armed with several weapons that can help him defeat his foes and navigate theNine Realms. Along the way, he gains a new weapon to help him out on his journey, with the Draupnir spear being a major highlight. With both games in the Norse saga giving the Ghost of Sparta another weapon to use against his foes, it only makes sense for the next game to keep this trend alive.

Though Kratos has plenty of weapons inGod of War Ragnarok, there is one weapon that would round out his arsenal - a sword. This would require a different form of combat that would switch up the gameplay of the franchise, especially if Santa Monica goes the extra mile and gives the blade its own element. With fire and ice in Kratos' arsenal already, and Draupnir being as fast as lightning, a poisonous sword would kill two birds with one stone.

The Benefits of Kratos Gaining a Poison Sword

Players can see the benefits of a sword from other characters who wield this weapon. Freya has access to two swords - Thrungva and Mardoll. Thrungva is Freya’s personal sword, while Mardoll is asword commissioned by Odinand gifted to her on their wedding day.

These swords can be upgraded to enhance the Stun buildup of Weighted Blade and enhance the Bifrost buildup of Asgardian Edge respectively. Atreus also gains a nifty sword called Ingrid, which appears to have a mind of its own and needs no directing during combat. In the next realm Kratos finds himself in, he should acquire a sword of his own to round out his arsenal of impressive weapons, as the sword would pair nicely with the manyshields available to Kratos.

Where Kratos Appears next In The God of War Franchise Could Determine The Type of Sword He Gets

There has been no confirmation on where thenextGod of Wargamewill take place, though it has been theorized that the franchise may be traveling to Egypt.God of War(2018) director Cory Barlog stated that the original plan was to have the game set in Egypt, and if this is where Kratos ends up, he could end up with a Khopesh. If he visits Polynesian mythology, a Fish Hook blade could end up in his possession. So long as the sword provides a different type of gameplay, and features a poison damage type that differs from fire and ice, it could become a fan favorite piece of gear.
