Observer, from developer Bloober Team, is one of the most underrated horror games of this generation. Created by the team behind recent horror hits such asBlair WitchandLayers of Fear, the game mixes the team’s signature adventure game style with cyberpunk-horror. The game reviewed favorably at launch and has since received a cult status, and now Bloober Team is hoping to reignite interest with the upcoming releases of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 with an expanded remaster in the form ofObserver: System Redux.
Observer: System Reduxwas announced earlier this yearand will act as an enhanced remaster of the original 2017 psychological horror game, expanding on the story and refining its gameplay. The game also features fully remastered visuals, made to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X’s unique features. In a trailer released from Bloober Team, the game’s lighting artist details how the team has enhanced the visuals for the remaster.

In the latest trailer, Bloober Team’s Tomasz Bentkowski details how Observer’s lighting has been improved inObserver: System Redux, such as how the gamewill now utilize newly rendered 4K textures. The remaster will also feature brand new character models, HDR and utilize the next-generation console’s ray-tracing abilities. Bentkowski also hints that Bloober Team will be revealing howSystem Reduxexpands on the gameplay and narrative of the original game in the near future.
Fans of horror and cyberpunk games are already likely very excited forObserver: System Redux, which is expected to be a launch title for the next-generation of consoles. One question that remains to be answered is whether the game’s new story content will feature Rutger Hauer, the voice behind the original game’s protagonist, Daniel Lazarski, andiconic actor from films such asBlade Runner, who unfortunately passed away in July 2019. So far, all of the footage released ofSystem Reduxhas utilizedthe voice recordings from the original release, implying that Bloober Team has not recast Lazarski in the remaster.
Surprisingly,Observer: System Reduxis not the only title Bloober Team is releasing on next-generations this holiday as the team is also currently developingThe Medium,an Xbox Series X exclusive launch titlethat utilizes the system’s SSD to render two game worlds simultaneously.The Mediumalso features a soundtrack composed by the belovedSilent Hillcomposer Akira Yamaoka and is apparently Bloober Team’s most ambitious project yet.
