When it comes to graphic novel, video game adaptations, there might not be a company that did it better thanTelltale Games. The studio that brought the worldThe Walking DeadandThe Wolf Among Usalso took a trip into the more well known super hero comic world with its adaptation of theBatmanstory.
WhileTelltale Gamesmight have dipped its toe into the graphic novel adaptation waters, there are still plenty more out there, just waiting to be adapted. When talking specifically about an adaptation of a story that doesn’t center around superheroes, the best part is that there are new stories to be shown off. While superhero stories are well known in the comics world, there are plenty others that would do quite well if they were introduced to the gaming public.

Saga
The first graphic novel on this list just begging for a video game adaptation isSaga. The story is one that might feel abit reminiscent ofStar Wars, though it’s quite a bit grittier. While there is indeed an interplanetary war at the center of this book, there’s also a very touching romance going on. To that end, this one might be even better if it was done up similarly toMassEffect. One of the best aspects ofSagais that while the heroes are certainly memorable enough, the villains have plenty of character as well. They’re arguably even more three-dimensional than what sci-fi fans have seen in baddies like Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader.
Revival
Revivalis an interesting graphic novel, because while it doesn’t center on superheroes, it definitely has people with some serious powers. Set in a Wisconsin town where dozens of people returned from the dead, this isn’t a book that can easily be put into one category or another. There’s a little bit of horror, a little bit of mystery and a little science fiction mixed in for good measure.
When it comes to a video game adaptation of this book, think of something likeThe Walking Dead, but without the zombies. There’s a littleState of Decaymixed in there too. There are monsters, or demons, or ghosts as part of the story as well. The mystery aspect of this story, especially, could be quite fun for gamers to try and unravel on their favorite console.

Elephantmen
The final graphic novel on this list almost already has a video game adaptation in certain ways.LikeMutant Year Zero,Elephantmenfeatures walking, talking warrior animals. Unlike that video game, the graphic novel features animals that were created in a lab to fight a war, rather than mutated in a post apocalyptic wasteland. The book’s story actually centers both on the wars these creatures fought and what happened when the war ended and they tried to find a way to meld into civilized society.
There’s a couple of different ways a game based onElephantmencould be successful. It feels like this could be a real time strategy game, or it could be an adventure game very much in thesame vein ofThe Wolf Among Us. It actually seems like the perfect project for the recently resurrected Telltale Games studio.
