Horror game fans have been waiting for a new officialSilent Hillgame for years ever since the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’sSilent Hills. Despite the demand, no new news or announcements regarding the franchise’s future has been put out by Konami. This has led to numerous rumors about whereSilent Hillmay go next.

The newest cause for fan speculation surrounds the developer behindThe Medium, Bloober Team. This is due to Bloober Team’s CEO, Piotr Babieno, revealing that the development team is currently working on a pre-existing horror IP from a “very famous gaming publisher.” With how care was taken to not mention the publisher or IP, many have speculated this to mean that the team is going to be involved in an entry in theSilent Hillseries.

While nothing is confirmed at this point in time, there really aren’t too many existinghorror game IPsthat delve into the psychological horror that Bloober Team has shown proficiency in withThe Mediumother thanSilent Hill. This makesSilent Hillthe most likely candidate in the eyes of many.

Considering that there is nothing confirmed until an official reveal, fans of bothThe MediumandSilent Hillshouldn’t take this rumor as fact. Other horror game IPs such asEternal Darkness: Sanity’s RequiemandRule of Rosehave gained cult followings due to both games' usages of psychological horror and disturbing visuals. This makes them also possible contenders for this yet to be announced project.

Another factor that contradicts this rumor is the apparent news of Konami having outsourced aSilent Hillproject to a well known Japanese developer. This project is said to be revealed in the summer of 2021, but little details on this are also known. Still, it is unlikely fortwo differentSilent Hillgamesto be developed at the same time by two different teams in two different countries.

No matter the identity of this horror IP, it is very likely for horror game fans to be excited with the announcement considering theperformance ofThe Mediumafter its release. It is unknown when Bloober Team will reveal this upcoming horror project, butSilent Hillfans hopefully will be satisfied with the summer announcement relating to the franchise.

With the release ofSilent Hill: Downpourbeing in 2012 and that game being the last mainline game in the franchise, it has almost been ten years since an official return. For many fans, they still see that foggy town in their restless dreams.
