The Netflix Anime channelon YouTube released a brand-new teaser trailer for the upcomingJunji Itō Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabreanime project. The anime series will be based on a selection of the horror author’s original manga works, and is scheduled to be available on the Netflix platform.
The new teaser features a brief glimpse at the anime adaptation ofTomie: Photo, one of the more famous works by Junji Itō that will be brought to the small screen in the upcoming series.Junji Itō Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabreis scheduled to be released on June 20, 2025.

Junji Itō Maniacis thefirst-ever anime adaptationof 20 different works by the author from hisJunji ItōMasterworks Collection, but also includes stories fromThe Hanging Balloons; SōichiandTomie.Some featured titles includeBullied;Gravetown;Where the Sandman Lives;Unendurable Labyrinth;The Strange Hikizuri Siblings: The Séance;Ice Cream TruckandLibrary of Illusions.
The upcoming series will be produced by staff at Studio DEEN, which also produced this series' predecessor, the 2018Junji Itō Collection. Staff returning from the previous project include director Shinobu Tagashira; as well as scriptwriter Kaori Sawada; Sound Director Hozumi Goda, with Yuki Hayashi as composer.
Cast members previously announced include Romi Park (Edward Elric,Fullmetal Alchemist) and Takahiro Sakurai (Suzaku Kururugi,Code Geass) who will be playing the titular siblings in The Strange Hikizuri Siblings; the voice of Eren Jaeger Yuki Kaji will play Goro Shinozaki inLibrary of Illusions.
Kuriko inBulliedwill be played by Natsumi Takamori (Mei Misaki,Another), while Rie Sugara (Endorsi Jahad,Tower of God) plays the titular character ofTomie;Hisako Kanemoto (Sawae,Uncle From Another World) plays the role of Sayoko inUnendurable Labyrinth;Ryohei Kimura (Gо̄riki,ODDTAXI) plays Tsuyoshi Yoshikawa in Gravetown.
TheJunji Itō Masterworks Collectionmanga ran from 2011 to 2013, spanning 11 volumes. This collection features some of the more well-known works by the author, and the upcoming anime will be adapting 20 works fromJunji Itō’sbody of work that will be animated for the first time inJunji Itō Maniac.
With its exciting list of stories, and cast members, as well as staff who have adaptedJunji Itōwork into anime before, the upcoming series is sure to be an exciting Winter releasefor fans of horror and ofItō.Junji Itō Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabreis scheduled for worldwide broadcast on June 11, 2025.
