Summary
As the latest in a franchise that has become known for its guest character appearances in DLC,Mortal Kombat 1seems set to continue this tradition for what could be years to come. Following the release of Omni-Man, and with Peacemaker and Homelander on the horizon,Mortal Kombat 1may have a comic book theme to its DLC characters that lines up with a fitting leak the game has had for months.
For the past few entries in the franchise,Mortal Kombattitles have been associated with many leaks and rumors, especially surrounding guests. Speculation regardingMK1’s Kombat Pack 2leaks has been no exception, with some dating back to before the game was even released. Despite the timeline, there were several leaks about the game’s roster which turned out to be true. One prominent leaker at the time indicated DC’s Deathstroke will make it intoMortal Kombat 1as DLC, which could be a perfect fit.

Deathstroke’s Presence in Leaks and NetherRealm Studios Games
Deathstroke’s Subtlety When Compared to Other Potential DLC Guests
While he’s a character who has had some undeniably cool appearances across DC media, Deathstroke hasn’t been a major topic of discussion regardingMK1’s DLC. With his confirmation coming from a leak that also mentionsNoob Saibot, Conan the Barbarian, and Ghostface, the potential crossover of Slade Wilson intoMortal Kombatmay not seem as novel. His inclusion might not come as a shock if it happens, but Deathstroke’s appropriateness for the brutality of the series could make him truly special.
Deathstroke’s History in Injustice
Not only is the addition of a DC character nothing new toMortal Kombat, but Deathstroke has already had an appearance as a playable character back in2011’sInjustice: Gods Among Us. He was somewhat infamous in the competitive community ofInjusticedue to the effectiveness of his gun-oriented zoner gameplay, and was eventually replaced by Deadshot in the sequel. It’s true that he’s already had a shot at a fighting game, but the precedent could also be a solid foundation for creating a new interpretation of Deathstroke.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Version of Deathstroke Has the Most Potential in Gaming Yet
Another upside to entering theMKuniverse is probably one of the most obvious, and has never been a proper opportunity for the character. Slade Wilson has always been known as a more violent and edgy antagonistic force since his introduction, using his blades and guns to ruthless effect as a bounty hunter. His appearances in the fighting gamesMK vs. DCandInjustice, and even instances ofDeathstroke in the Arkhamversehave always been held back in terms of how graphic his depiction is allowed to be. In a title likeMortal Kombat 1that pushes the boundaries of gore in video games, there is a chance to bring a sense of his true style without compromising DC’s typically cleaner image.
MK’s DC Character Saturation Backlash
Deathstroke making it intoMK1as DLC would be cause for excitement, but there’s also a sense of fatigue that some fans have voiced about the game’s future crossovers. Peacemaker already comes from DC, andif Harley Quinn is in Kombat Pack 2as well, Deathstroke might be one DC character too many. However, it’s still worth noting that unlike these other guests, Slade hasn’t been prominently featured in other media throughout the past few years. Harley may be expected after Joker’s stint inMK11and her recentSuicide Squadappearances, but including Deathstroke could boost his popularity to new heights and honor his source material like never before.
