AlthoughMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruinis a spin off of Capcom’s iconicMonster Hunterfranchise, there are plenty of differences between the two series of games. One of the most noticeable distinctions between the two is that the former uses an RPG level up system, a departure from the purely skill and gear based progression of its inspiration. While players can certainly grind levels in order toincrease the strength of their character and Monsties, there is a limit to how long they can do this for. Particularly, players will eventually hit the max level in the game.

Most RPGs have a maximum level, and it’s something of a right of passage for players to hit that max level. Some games make this harder than others, butMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruinis on the easier side. Players won’t necessarily hit the max level just from playing the story mode, but it won’t take too long to reach this goal with a bit of side questing.

The max level inMonster Hunter Stories 2is level 99, the same as it was inthe originalMonster Hunter Stories. This applies to both the player’s character and any trainable Monsties they have. As a player increases their level, their stats such as damage and HP will increase. There are a couple ways that players can go about raising their level to get stronger, but regardless of how players go about doing this it will inevitably take quite a bit of grinding.

The first and most obvious wayplayers can farm experience and increase their levelis by running around and fighting other monsters. For active players, this is probably one of the best way to get experience quickly. Doing manual quests and such will also help to speed up this process. Outside of this, there are also expeditions that players can send their Monsties on. These will be automatically completed even if the game is off and reward a lot of experience to Monsties that were on the quest.

It’s worth noting thatlevel is adequately scaled when it comes to multiplayer inMonster Hunter Stories 2. If two players are taking part in a cooperative quest together, their levels will be scaled down to the level of the quest so that it is still challenging. Likewise, if players are competing in a competitive multiplayer battle, both players will be scaled up or down to level 50. This ensures that players are still able to enjoy the game together even with a large level gap.

Monster Hunter Stories 2is available now on PC and Switch.
