Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s voice actors have discussed the impact of their roles in a recent interview and how they adapted established, fan-favorite characters for a new era. WithModern Warfare 2’s campaign now available in early access for pre-order holders, it’s quickly become apparent that this time, Infinity Ward has put more emphasis on character growth and banter than ever before.

Namely,Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is more dialogue-heavy than any of the previousModern Warfaretitles, with a few notable instances of allowing players to direct the conversation toward their topic of choice. While its immediate predecessor did something similar, the newCODuses this feature to a greater extent which, in turn, gave the voice actors a better opportunity to stretch their proverbial legs.

Barry Sloane and Neil Ellice play Captain Price and Soap MacTavish, respectively, and they recently discussed their performances with NME. According to Sloane, he tried to pay homage to the classic Price performance by Billy Murray, but also inject a bit of himself into the role. “Billy’s a little more clipped, a little more in the system – mine’s a little more working class, I think, “he explained. Sloane also noted that he initially wanted Price to sound a bit more Scouse than he does in the final version ofModern Warfare 2’s campaign mode, but that Infinity Ward chose not to go that direction after all.

Ellice, on the other hand, said that he was advised to put as much of himself into the role of Soap as possible and that relying on previous performance too much may be too big of a crutch. He was also very happy about his chemistry with Ghost: “We both bring some lighter moments into it as well, which is really closer to my own personality,” said Ellice. SinceModern Warfare 2’s campaign is a hiton Steam, it would appear that Infinity Ward chose the right talent for the job in most ways that matter.

While there have been someproblems withModern Warfare 2’s early campaign access, many players seem to be quite happy with how it turned out. This is particularly notable because Infinity Ward and Activision are now using the game’s single-player content as an early introduction to its full roster of modes, with multiplayer being the most important upcoming feature.

Being an impartial launch of the full game, the early campaign access also allowed some players to get a sense of what might be coming as part of the game’s full release. Most notable is perhaps the fact that one user got tosee allModern Warfare 2multiplayer camos earlyon, revealing the existence of solid recolors and more.
