SomeCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2players are being banned from the game’s single-player campaign early access.Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2won’t release for another five days, but asCall of Dutyfans wait, they can play the game’s campaign through pre-order early access. Needless to say, some players have been surprised to find that Activision has banned them fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s servers, including from the early access campaign window.
Multiplayer is not part of theCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2campaign early accessoffering for pre-orderers. The idea may be thatCall of Dutyfans can complete the campaign ahead of the full launch and then spend all their time playing Multiplayer with their friends. But since discs have yet to be mailed, the early access campaign is being handled entirely online. That’s why a ban by Activision could, theoretically, lead to being banned from access to the single-player campaign.

Reddit user Bender99342 says this is exactly what has happened to them. They posted a thread to theModernWarfareIIsubreddit titled “I was banned from single player game for some reason…” along with a screenshot as evidence. The screenshot shows them receiving a “Connection Failed” error message accessingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2campaign early access. The error explains that the player has been “permanently banned” from playing onCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s servers.
The initial response to the post understandably believes this must be a glitch. That’s because any explanation for potentially beingbanned inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2doesn’t make sense in the context of playing a single-player campaign. Others correctly point out thatCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign servers are online and support the RICOCHET anti-cheat system, so bans can come through as if playing Multiplayer.
Bender99342 asserts that they were not cheating, of course. They explain that they were playingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2on their Steam Deckwhen the game crashed due to an error. They were banned when they returned. The only explanation they can think of is that they had the League of Legends Blitz App running in the background, which RICOCHET may have seen as a potential risk.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2players could be getting banned due toRICOCHETbeing too aggressive. In addition, it could be due to a strange glitch. Or it could be that the player was cheating in a single-player game, and Activision doesn’t allow that anymore. It’s a complicated situation, but clearly, nobody wins here.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2releases on October 28 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
